YOUR GO-TO GUIDES ON BEST TIME TO VISIT CROATIA

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to visit Croatia?
It depends on what kind of holiday you want, but there are several times of the year that could be perfect for you. If you’re coming for the sea first and foremost, June to September are great for swimming and beach time. If you want to avoid the crowds, I’d say April and May or October are the best.
Is summer a good time to visit Croatia?
Summer is a great time to visit Croatia. Croatia is known as one of the best summer destinations in Europe, so you really can’t go wrong with visiting Croatia in the summer. It’s the perfect time for enjoying the sea and beaches, island hopping, and many other summer activities. This is definitely the most crowded time, so prepare for that or try to find a less popular place on the coast where the crowds aren’t as big.
When is the best time to visit Croatia for beaches?
Summer is definitely the best time to visit for the beaches. Late June to mid-September has perfect sea temperatures, and you can spend days just enjoying the stunning beaches all over the coast.
What is the best time to visit Croatia without crowds?
April and May are the best months to visit without crowds. These two months are usually not appropriate for enjoying the sea, since it’s not warm enough, so fewer people visit. However, these months are still usually very sunny, so they’re the perfect time to visit for those who want to explore Croatia but don’t care much for the beaches. October is also a good option, and there’s still a possibility of swimming in October if you come at the beginning of the month.
Is Croatia worth visiting in spring?
Absolutely! April and May are amazing months to visit Croatia. Everything is in bloom, the waterfalls in the national parks are full and strong, and the weather is usually very sunny, but there are no crowds and prices are much more affordable. I can’t recommend spring enough, we do a road trip all over Croatia every spring!
Is Croatia worth visiting in autumn?
Yes! September and October are great months to visit Croatia, especially if you want to enjoy the sea without too many people. September is still very warm, basically the same as August, but there are fewer people on the beaches. Dubrovnik and Split are still very crowded, but the rest of the coast is a bit less busy. October is also still very nice, and there’s a possibility of swimming in October as well, especially in the first half of the month.
What is the cheapest time to visit Croatia?
The cheapest time to visit is during the late or early shoulder season and the off-season. That means October to April are generally the more affordable months, with winter obviously being the cheapest period. I wouldn’t suggest visiting the coast during winter, though, since there are days when it’s absolutely lovely and around 15 degrees, but there are also days with incredible winds and rain when you won’t be able to do much. If you’re looking for a cheaper visit to Croatia, come in the shoulder season.
Can you visit Croatia in winter?
Yes, you can, however you will be limited in what you can do. Obviously, you won’t be able to enjoy the beaches, islands, and many outdoor activities will depend on the weather, which can be either really nice or really bad, especially on the coast. Inland, winter is great if you want to explore the capital and enjoy Christmas markets all over the country.
What is the worst time to visit Croatia?
I would say winter, just because Croatia really shines during sunny and warm weather, so what you see in winter won’t truly be the real Croatian coast experience. You can’t predict the weather, the islands are mostly off-limits, and a lot of landmarks and attractions are either closed or operate on very limited hours. Unless you’re going to Zagreb, I wouldn’t visit Croatia in winter.
