KRK ISLAND BEACHES: A GUIDE TO THE BEST BEACHES ON KRK
If you’re searching for some great Krk Island beaches, this blog post is just what you need!
Krk Island is located in the northern Adriatic Sea, so it’s easily accessible to visitors who are coming from neighboring countries or the capital city of Zagreb (like us!). While Krk is a beautiful island with plenty to see and do, it’s especially popular for its great beaches. Whether you’re a family looking for calm, shallow waters or a naturist in search of secluded spots, you’ll find something for yourself.
This blog post focuses on some of the best Krk Island beaches I’ve personally visited. Of course, there are many more worth exploring, but these are my top picks!

TYPES OF KRK ISLAND BEACHES
Krk Island has quite a few different types of beaches, so no matter what you’re looking for, you’ll find something for you. The most common beaches on Krk are pebble beaches. These are great if you want crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling, and gentle slopes into the sea.
While sandy beaches are quite rare in Croatia, Krk has a few! If you prefer sand make sure you check out the beaches on this list. Finally, you’ll also find plenty of rocky beaches. These are usually located a bit further away from the main beaches and are perfect if you prefer privacy, solitude and natural beauty.

BEST KRK ISLAND BEACHES
VELA PLAZA (BASKA BEACH)
If you’re visiting Krk, this is the one beach you’ll definitely visit. Vela Plaza, also known as Baska Beach, is one of Croatia’s most famous and beloved beaches, and you’ll find it in the town of Baska. Baska Beach is an incredible 1.8 km-long beach with pebbly beach and sandy seabed. Because of the soft sand, this beach is a favorite among families with children, as well as non-swimmers.
The beach is stunning, but also easily reachable by car, bike, or on foot. There’s plenty of parking around if you’re visiting for the day, and plenty of accommodation if you want to stay close by. This amazing beach has many incredible amenities, and a lively promenade nearby full of cafes, bars, and restaurants.
On the beach, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, and there are showers, changing rooms, and public toilets, so you’ve got everything you need. You can try various water sports such as pedal boats, jet skis, parasailing, snorkeling, or diving. There are also playgrounds for children and inflatable water parks if you’re looking for a bit more activity. I also have to mention that the beach is wheelchair-accessible, with a pathway leading straight into the Adriatic Sea. I couldn’t recommend this beach enough. It does get crowded in the summer since it’s very loved, but due to its length, it’s always possible to grab a spot for yourself.
Close to the beach, there’s an incredible bar called Bikini Bar, with stunning views of the sea. Make sure you check it out!

OPRNA BEACH
Oprna Beach is probably the most beautiful beach on Krk Island! At least, that’s what most people say. It’s truly one of the most picturesque and popular beaches on the island, and for good reason! I mean look at the picture below! Oprna Beach is located near the village of Stara Baska on the island’s southern coast, and it’s a must visit if you love scenic beaches in bays. The beach has crystal-clear waters, a mix of fine pebbles and sand, and it’s ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
However, while it is absolutely stunning, Oprna Beach is not the easiest to reach. If you’re not up for putting in a bit of effort to get here, you might want to pick a beach that’s more accessible. You can reach Oprna Beach by parking along the main road and then walking down a short but steep path. If you choose this option, make sure to wear proper shoes because flip-flops will not be enough. Alternatively, you can also get there by boat, if that’s an option for you.
Finally, make sure you bring all you need with you. There’s a small beach bar offering drinks, but that’s about it. There used to be sunbeds and umbrellas, but there haven’t been any last year so don’t go unprepared.

SOLINE BEACH
Soline Beach is the most unique beach on the island, because going for a swim is not the goal here! This beach is famous for its therapeutic mud and shallow warm waters. While this beach isn’t your typical beach, you can still enjoy yourself here, especially if you like wellness.
The mud on this beach is known to help with bone diseases such as arthritis. It’s a fun activity for most visitors, because you can spend the day smearing yourself in black mud. Families especially love this beach because it’s very shallow, so you really have to walk far out to get a proper swim.
There’s plenty of free parking there, and after enjoying the mud at the beach, you can take a shower and get clean. There’s a beach bar where you can grab drinks and food while enjoying your day at this unique beach!

ZALA BEACH
Zala Beach is another stunning beach on Krk that will sweep you off your feet. It’s located in Stara Baska, not that far from Oprna Beach. The pebble beach has breathtaking crystal-clear waters and gorgeous scenery surrounding it. This beach is perfect for a calm and relaxing stay at the beach and it’s an excellent spot for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. It’s also perfect for children and non-swimmers due to its gentle entry into the sea.
While it’s close to Oprna Bay, Zala beach is much more accessible than Oprna. You can drive to Zala beach on a paved road. The road leads close to the beach and there’s a parking area located about 150 meters away. You can also reach the beach by bike, on foot, or by boat.
There’s a beach bar during the summer season so you can buy some drinks while lounging on the beach. You can bring your own sunbeds and umbrellas, but there are also some you can rent. You can also rent kayaks and sup boards if you want to have some fun on the water.

SV MARAK BEACH
Sveti Marak Beach was one of the first beaches we visited and we loved it. It is a unique sandy beach located near the village of Risika. It’s on the eastern coast of Krk Island, so you can easily reach it soon after crossing the Krk Bridge. It’s one of the few sandy beaches on the island, so it’s very popular with those who prefer the sandy beaches. The beach has a shallow sandy seabed, so it’s perfect for little children and non-swimmers.
While it’s not too big, it can fit a decent amount of people. However, during summer season this beach gets quite overcrowded. If you want privacy, either come really early, or just choose another beach.
You can reach Sv Marak Beach easily by car, and there’s plenty of parking located about 10 meters from the beach. Parking is paid during the high season (4€), so keep that in mind. There are a few beach bars and nearby restaurants where you can relax, and there are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent. Otherwise, there aren’t that many amenities.

BUNCULUKA BEACH
If you love naturist beaches, this one will be the one for you! Bunculuka Beach is a famous naturist destination located near Baska. Next to the beach is the Camping Bunculuka Naturist Resort, which is operated by Valamar. If you love camping, this resort rents terraced pitches and modern camping homes located in-between stunning pine trees and close to the sea.
The beach is truly one of the prettiest you’ll see. It is in a secluded cove, pebbly with a sandy seabed. It has many sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as other amenities such as kayak rentals, massages, and restaurants. You can reach the beach by foot, car, or bike from Baska town center. Even if you’re not camping, you can still access the beach, but naturism is mandatory on this one, so be aware you have to leave the swimsuits behind, it’s not optional!

SURBOVA BEACH
Surbova Beach is another gorgeous secluded pebble beach located near Stara Baska. It’s only a few minutes from Zala Beach, and while Zala is a bit prettier, this one is still stunning but also less crowded. Surbova Beach is known for its natural beauty and peacefulness.
This beach is not the easiest to reach. There’s no nice, paved road towards it, so you can access it only by a car suitable for those kinds of roads. People often book 4×4 buggies to reach this beach. If you have a regular car, you can park near Zala Beach and go on foot to Surbova beach. The walk isn’t the easiest, since it includes some uphill and downhill segments, but it’s definitely worth it. Alternatively, if you have the option, you can easily reach the beach by boat.
There are no amenities at this beach, so you should bring your own shade, water, and supplies. However, this also means you’ll enjoy a peaceful experience, shared only with those who are willing to put in the effort to reach the beach.

PORT BEACH VRBNIK
While this isn’t the biggest or the most beautiful beach on the island, I have to mention it because it has the most picturesque setting of all the beaches. Vrbnik is a charming little town perched at the top of a hill, with its port at the base of the hill. The beach is right next to the port, offering a stunning backdrop.
It’s a small beach with no amenities, but the views of Vrbnik and the Adriatic Sea while you swim are absolutely stunning. There’s lots of parking space at or near the port, so you can park your car easily. On top of that, there’s a few restaurants and bars nearby so you can walk to them after a magical swim. I also have to mention this little ‘secret’ beach near Vrbnik pier. It’s absolutely charming, and swimming there feels like a dream.

CONCLUSION: BEST KRK BEACHES
Krk has some truly stunning beaches, and each of these is definitely worth visiting. If you’re looking for something easy to access and family-friendly, I’d recommend Vela Plaza and Sv. Marak Beach. If you want beaches that feel more dramatic, wild, and truly unforgettable, then Oprna Beach and Bunculuka Beach are amazing choices.
