Dubrovnik is one of the most visited destinations in Croatia, and many travelers look for great day trips from there. Visiting Korcula is a fantastic option. Not only is it easily accessible for a day trip, but it’s also absolutely stunning. If you don’t have a few days to explore Korcula, this blog post will show you why you should at least visit for a day!

WHERE IS KORCULA
Korcula is a beautiful island in the Adriatic Sea, near the Peljesac Peninsula, and one of Croatia’s most picturesque spots. It’s known for its medieval architecture, stunning beaches, and rich history. The island’s main town, also called Korcula, is often nicknamed ‘Little Dubrovnik’ because of its well-preserved medieval walls and buildings. It’s also linked to the famous explorer Marco Polo, who some believe was born there.
Korcula is a popular tourist destination and an easy day trip from Dubrovnik, as it’s only 120 kilometers away, just close enough to explore in a day.
HOW TO GET FROM DUBROVNIK TO KORCULA
There are several ways to travel from Dubrovnik to Korcula, depending on your priorities—whether it’s speed, comfort, or budget. Here are a few options to choose from:
Dubrovnik to Korcula by ferry (best option)
Taking the ferry from Dubrovnik to Korcula is the easiest option, though it’s also the most expensive. It’s a scenic and convenient way to travel, and while the ride takes just over two hours, the stunning views will make the time fly by.
Several companies operate on this route, including Jadrolinija, TP Line, and Krilo. Ferries run daily, with multiple departures in the summer and fewer in the winter. Some ferries allow cars, but many are passenger-only catamarans. They depart from Dubrovnik’s ferry port in Gruž and arrive in Korcula Town.

Dubrovnik to Korcula by bus and ferry (budget option)
If ferries are unavailable or too expensive, you can take a bus followed by a short ferry ride to the island. From Dubrovnik, catch a bus to Orebic on the Peljesac Peninsula. The ride takes just under three hours, and buses depart from Dubrovnik’s main bus station. Tickets cost around 12 euros one way. Once in Orebic, you can hop on a ferry to Korcula, which takes only 15 minutes and costs about 2 euros one way.
However, this option requires you to stay at least one night on the island, which makes it less ideal for a day trip. Since the bus only runs in the afternoon and arrives in Korcula around 5 p.m., most travelers opt for the direct ferry instead.
Dubrovnik to Korcula by private transfer and ferry (luxury option)
If you prefer to drive to Orebic instead of taking the ferry, you can always book a private driver or a taxi from Dubrovnik. The drive takes around 2.5 hours and is significantly more expensive than the bus. Once in Orebic, you’ll need to take the short ferry to Korcula.
Although it’s pricier, this option offers more flexibility since you don’t have to wait for the afternoon bus. It can also be a great choice if you’re traveling with a group, as you won’t need to pay for multiple expensive ferry tickets from Dubrovnik.
IS A DAY TRIP FROM DUBROVNIK TO KORCULA WORTH IT?
Overall, I’d say the day trip from Dubrovnik to Korcula is definitely worth it, but it depends on what you want to experience during your visit.
It’s definitely worth it if you’re taking the ferry, as you’ll be there in less than two hours and still have plenty of the day left for exploring. It’s also a great option if you want to spend the day discovering the beautiful Old Town, though with only a few hours, you won’t have much time to venture beyond Korcula Town.

It might not be worth it if you’re taking the bus, as you’ll have significantly less time to explore, especially if you’re not staying overnight. It’s also not the best option if you want to visit Korcula’s best beaches, as they’re not near Korcula Town and would require more time to reach.
All in all, you don’t want to feel rushed. If you’re happy exploring Korcula Town, you’ll have a great day trip. But if you want to explore the whole island, a day trip won’t be enough.
WHAT TO DO ON KORCULA ISLAND
Korcula Island is an incredible destination and one of my absolute favorite islands in Croatia. If you’re visiting for just a day, you’ll need a short but well-planned itinerary. Here’s what I would do in a day on Korcula Island!
Explore Korcula Old Town
Korcula’s Old Town is nearly as stunning as Dubrovnik’s. It has stunning medieval stone streets and charming Venetian-style buildings. While exploring, to visit St. Mark’s Cathedral, where you can climb the bell tower for breathtaking panoramic views. Also, check out the Marco Polo House, believed to be the birthplace of the legendary explorer. Finally, don’t miss the most striking landmark of the Old Town, the magnificent Revelin Tower.
Go Wine Tasting in Lumbarda
After exploring the Old Town, hop in a taxi for a short drive to Lumbarda, a region famous for its exceptional white wines, particularly Grk and Pošip. I highly recommend booking a wine-tasting tour at one of the island’s incredible wineries. Some of the most popular options include Bire Winery, Zure Winery, and Lovrić Winery. Here are a few activities that combine wine tasting with an unforgettable Korcula experience!
Relax on Stunning Beaches
Korcula is home to some of Croatia’s best beaches, so it would be a shame to miss them. Since you only have a few hours, choose your beach wisely to avoid spending too much time getting there.
If you’ve taken a wine tour, stay in Lumbarda and enjoy its beautiful beaches. Some of the most popular ones include Vela Pržina Beach, Bilin Žal Beach, and Prvi Žal Beach. This is a great option since Korcula Town doesn’t have many relaxing beaches without crowds. However, if you’re staying in Korcula Town, you can visit Banje Beach or Luka Korculanska Beach. Additionally, there are plenty of spots on the outskirts of the Old Town where you can use stairs to access the sea and still have a fantastic time.
Try Local Dalmatian Food
Finally, if you have some extra time or prefer to skip the swim, stop by one of Korcula’s many fantastic restaurants for a delicious meal. The island is known for its amazing seafood and traditional Dalmatian dishes, such as Peka, black risotto, Makaruni, and fresh oysters and mussels.
