Here’s my Miami Travel Guide, which I’ve put together after several visits to South Florida, to help you plan the best trip possible!

I created My Miami Travel Guide based on my own experiences from several visits to Miami and South Florida over the years. I’ve explored the area extensively, so everything I recommend comes from personal experience and first-hand knowledge. From the best things to do and where to stay to hidden gems, fun day trips, and practical travel tips, my goal is to help you experience Miami like someone who has actually taken the time to explore and research the city, rather than simply ticking off the most popular tourist attractions.

Best Time To Visit Miami

The best time to visit Miami is from December to April, when the weather is warm, sunny, and ideal for exploring the city and beaches. If you want to enjoy Miami without the busiest crowds, I’d suggest visiting in April or May, when you can still get great weather while avoiding the peak winter season.

Miami in November

We personally tend to visit mostly in November. The prices are lower and the crowds are much smaller. Swimming is still absolutely possible as well! For more details on the weather, what to pack, prices, and the best things to do, check out my complete guide to Miami in November.

Is Miami Expensive?

Miami can be expensive, especially for accommodation, dining, and nightlife in popular areas like South Beach. However, you can visit Miami on a budget by choosing affordable accommodation, eating at local spots, and enjoying the many free beaches and outdoor attractions.

How Many Days In Miami?

You’ll need about 2 days to see the main highlights of Miami, but if you want to explore the beaches, neighborhoods, and take a couple of day trips, I’d suggest 4–5 days. For more tips, check out my guide on how many days to spend in Miami.

Where To Stay In Miami

Choose South Beach for the best Miami experience, with beautiful beaches, Art Deco architecture, nightlife, and plenty of restaurants and shops in walking distance. If you prefer a quieter or more budget-friendly stay, Mid-Beach, North Beach, or Brickell are great alternatives, while Downtown Miami is the best choice if you’re staying before or after a cruise from PortMiami. My Miami Itineraries

After visiting Miami several times and spending a month in South Florida on each trip, I’ve learned that seeing the city is about more than ticking off the main sights in the city itself, it’s about knowing where to go, how to make the most of your time, and when to slow down and enjoy the beach, and to which beach to go to. I’ve put together my favourite Miami itineraries, including my 1-day Miami itinerary and 4-day Miami itinerary, to help you plan your trip without the guesswork.

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

What are the must-see attractions in Miami?

Miami’s must-sees are South Beach, Little Havana, Wynwood Walls, Vizcaya Museum, and a day trip to the Everglades.

When is the best time of year to visit Miami?

The best time to visit Miami is definitely from December to April when the weather is warm, sunny, and less humid. That’s also when it’s the busiest though. I personally like going in November. The prices are better, there aren’t big crowds, and while you might get a rainy day or two, it’s still really nice overall.

What are the best beaches in Miami?

The most popular beach is definitely Miami Beach, especially South Beach. South Pointe Beach is another great option, and if you head a bit further out, Key Biscayne has some amazing beaches too. For the absolute best beaches, make your way down to the Keys!

Is Miami safe for tourists?

Yes, Miami is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular areas like South Beach, Downtown, and Little Havana, though like any big city you’ll want to stay alert to pickpocketing and avoid poorly lit or unfamiliar neighborhoods at night. We have never felt unsafe in Miami.

Are there good day trips from Miami?

Definitely! From Miami you can take some amazing day trips. Popular are the Florida Keys (especially Key Largo & Key West) for snorkeling, beaches, and island vibes, the Everglades for airboat rides and wildlife, and Fort Lauderdale for canals, beaches, and dining.

What is the nightlife like in Miami?

It’s great, and you get a mix of everything, from glamorous nightclubs in South Beach and rooftop bars with ocean views, to Latin music venues in Little Havana and trendy lounges in Wynwood. The city has something for everyone.

What local foods and drinks should I try in Miami?

Miami’s food scene is a mix of Cuban, Caribbean, and Latin flavors you won’t find anywhere else in the U.S. You’ve got to try a Cuban sandwich, stone crabs, and a slice of tangy Key lime pie. We also LOVE Mexican food in Miami. Don’t miss a strong cafecito (Cuban coffee) and a classic mojito.

How do you get from Miami Airport to South Beach?

The easiest option is usually an Uber or taxi, which takes around 20–30 minutes depending on traffic, and this is what we used most during our stay. You can also take public transportation, including the Metrorail and bus, if you’re looking for a cheaper option. We took the bus once and found the bus stop a little tricky to locate, but once we found it, it was an easy and affordable way to get into the city.

Is Miami easy to get around without a car?

How far is Miami Airport from South Beach?

Miami International Airport is about 12–15 miles (19–24 km) from South Beach, and the drive usually takes around 20–30 minutes, depending on traffic.

What is the best way to spend a layover in Miami?

If you have a longer layover, head to South Beach for a taste of Miami’s beaches, Art Deco architecture, and lively atmosphere. This is also where I would stay if you have the choice, as you’ll be close to the beach and pool, while staying in one of the most central areas to experience Miami’s vibe. With limited time, stick to one area rather than trying to see the whole city—you can easily grab a meal, walk along Ocean Drive, enjoy the beach, and still make it back to the airport without feeling rushed.

Is Miami walkable?

Some areas of Miami are very walkable, especially South Beach, where we spent most of our time. We walked everywhere. from the beach and Ocean Drive to restaurants, the Spanish Quarter, and South Pointe Pier, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and attractions along the way. However, Miami is quite spread out, so you’ll likely need another form of transportation to explore areas beyond your neighborhood.
