HOW MANY DAYS IN MIAMI DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED? MY TAKE ON 1, 4 AND 7 DAYS!

If you’re wondering how many days in Miami you need to see everything important, I’ll help you decide!

I’ve visited Miami quite a few times now, sometimes just for a day while on a cruise, and sometimes for several days after cruises. In this blog post, I’ll tell you how many days in Miami I think you actually need to experience the city properly. I absolutely love Miami and I’m happy even with one day here, but having a few extra days is definitely a plus. Keep reading to find out what I think is the perfect amount of time to stay in Miami!

IS MIAMI WORTH VISITING?

Yes, absolutely! I love Miami, and while it does have a reputation as a party city, I’m someone who doesn’t particularly like nightlife, yet I absolutely love Miami. It’s a great beach destination, you can use a bike to get around, and there are plenty of incredible bars and restaurants to try. It’s also amazing for shopping and, even more importantly for me, day trips and cruises. If you have the chance, definitely visit Miami at least once in your life!

HOW MANY DAYS IN MIAMI DO YOU ACTUALLY NEED?

If you like an active vacation with some beach days and easy day trips, I’d say 4 days is perfect. If you have longer, you can do some really amazing day trips, including the Florida Keys, which are honestly the best part of Florida for me.

If you’re only there for a day because of a cruise, you obviously won’t have much time, but you can still get a taste of Miami and see some of the main highlights, so I definitely wouldn’t say it’s not worth visiting. Overall, I’d say 4 days before or after a cruise is perfect, or add a few extra days if you’re visiting Miami as part of a longer Florida trip.

HOW TO SPEND 1 DAY IN MIAMI

If you’re only in Miami for a day, most likely with a cruise, I’d focus on a few key attractions and end the day at Miami Beach. Start your morning by visiting Little Havana, where you can get a taste of Cuban culture and the unique atmosphere of the neighbourhood. Not too far from Little Havana is the iconic Bayside Marketplace, which is quite fun even if you don’t spend much money. It’s fun to just walk around, browse the stores, and you can also grab some great food there.

I’d spend the afternoon at Miami Beach. You can either explore the area by bike (it’s really easy to rent a Citi Bike) or just plop yourself down on the beach or at a beach club somewhere and relax before you have to leave for your cruise or flight. I’m personally not a huge fan of Miami Beach for swimming, so I’d definitely spend some time exploring the Art Deco District, Española Way, the Botanic Garden, and a few other fun spots around the area instead. Read my detailed one-day Miami itinerary below for exactly how I’d spend the day!

HOW TO SPEND 4 DAYS IN MIAMI

Now, four days in Miami is already enough time to see quite a few highlights, so you can take it easy and even add a few day trips. I would definitely stay on Miami Beach, so I’d use the first day just for Miami Beach, or South Beach to be more precise.

Explore the different neighbourhoods, try some good local food (we liveeee for the birria tacos at Dulce Vida on Sixth Street) shop around Lincoln Road, and go to the beach if you wish. In the evening, you can go out, either to a nightclub or just to one of the many fun bars around Ocean Drive.

Day two I’d use for Downtown Miami, where you can visit Bayside Marketplace, Little Havana, and a few museums. We actually biked from Miami Beach to Downtown Miami and it was super fun! If you have time, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens is absolutely stunning. You can also do some great shopping here if that’s what you like.

On day three, if you’re crazy like us, you can do a day trip to Key West. I’ll honestly tell you that it was exhausting, but we only had one day and it was so absolutely worth it. On a second trip, we went for a few extra days because Key West definitely deserves more time, but even if you can only see it for a day, I think it’s worth doing. If you’re not up for such a long day trip, consider a shorter one to Key Largo or even Key Biscayne. Both are absolutely incredible!

Finally, on day four, I’d do an easy day trip to Everglades National Park, which is just a must while you’re in Miami. Riding an airboat and seeing alligators was one of my favourite things we did in Florida, so don’t skip it!

HOW TO SPEND 7 DAYS IN MIAMI

If you have a full week in Miami, I’d do the first 4 days exactly as I described above, but I’d add a few more fun things and adapt some of the day trips.

For example, if you have 7 days, I’d definitely stay one night in Key West, so you have two days there. It will make a huge difference, because you won’t have to rush through everything in one day.

One day I’d dedicate to shopping, because Miami has some incredible outlet malls. Visiting Sawgrass Mills Mall is genuinely one of the highlights of every Miami trip I take. You’ll need a car to get there, but it’s more than worth it. Just prepare yourself that you’ll need plenty of space in your luggage if you go!

On the final day, I’d keep things relaxed and spend some time by the pool or beach, then see what events are happening around the city. Miami is such a fun city, so check out concerts, basketball games, or anything else happening while you’re there for some extra local fun!

CONCLUSION: MY OPINION ON HOW MANY DAYS IN MIAMI YOU NEED

I’d say you need at least 4 days for a proper Miami visit, but having a full week and combining it with a few different day trips is an amazing option.

No matter how many days you have, make sure you have enough time to explore South Beach, do at least 1–2 day trips, and actually have some time to relax and enjoy that Miami atmosphere. You don’t want to spend the whole trip rushing from one place to another!

Honestly, I can’t wait to get back there, even though I’ve already seen the majority of the things to see in Miami and the surrounding area. There’s just something about Miami that keeps making me want to go back!
