Yes, absolutely, I’ve walked all over Dubrovnik, from the Old Town to Gruž, Lapad, Babin Kuk, and Montovjerna. The only thing to keep in mind is that Dubrovnik is very hilly, so you’ll encounter plenty of stairs depending on where you’re going, which can be challenging if you have difficulty with stairs.
Can you drink tap water?
Yes, you can safely drink tap water in Dubrovnik, and plenty of locals and visitors do. However, after heavy rain, locals generally recommend avoiding tap water for a short time because the city’s old pipes can allow impurities to enter the water system.
What are the must-see attractions in Dubrovnik?
The must-see attractions are the City Walls, Stradun Street, the museums in the Old Town, Lokrum Island, the Elaphiti Islands, and the Mount Srd viewpoint.
Do I need a ticket to walk the Dubrovnik city walls?
Yes, you need a ticket to enter the city walls. Tickets cost €40 for adults and €15 for children and students. It’s actually better value to get the Dubrovnik Pass, since it also costs €40 but includes free entry to museums, free bus tickets, and discounts at restaurants. Yes, cruise ships can have a huge impact on crowds in Dubrovnik, particularly in the Old Town and around the city walls. I’ve experienced this myself, and if you can plan your visit for a day with fewer or no cruise ships, you’ll enjoy Dubrovnik much more. Can you swim in the sea around Dubrovnik?
Yes, the sea is crystal clear and perfectly clean, and swimming is one of the best things you can do in Dubrovnik. Here’s a guide to the best beaches around town!
How do I get from Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town?
It’s really easy. The airport is close to town, so you can either take the shuttle bus or book an Uber (or Bolt). Local taxis are also an option, but make sure you confirm the price in advance, it should be around €30.
Is Dubrovnik safe for solo travelers?
Dubrovnik is very safe for everyone. Of course, like anywhere, it’s smart to keep an eye on your belongings in crowded areas, but overall you’ll have no problems here.
What local foods should I try in Dubrovnik?
Dubrovnik has some amazing food options. Don’t miss the fresh grilled fish, black risotto, peka (lamb or octopus), mussels, and oysters. Make sure you reserve the popular restaurants in advance!

Yes, Dubrovnik is beautiful in winter when you get sunny weather, and I’ve personally visited during the colder months and enjoyed the quieter atmosphere. However, Dubrovnik’s biggest charm is its connection to the sea, so if you can’t swim in the Adriatic or enjoy the beaches, you’re missing a big part of the experience.
Is Uber cheaper than taxis?
Yes, I generally recommend using Uber or Bolt instead of traditional taxis, as they are usually more affordable and make getting around Dubrovnik easier. You can also use the local bus network, which is a convenient option for many parts of the city.
Is the Dubrovnik Pass worth buying?
Yes, the Dubrovnik Pass is definitely worth considering, especially if you plan to visit the city walls. For roughly the price of a walls ticket, you also get access to several museums and attractions, as well as public transport, making it good value if you plan to explore.
Can you visit Dubrovnik without renting a car?
Absolutely, and in my opinion, Dubrovnik is actually easier to visit without a car. Parking can be difficult and expensive, while buses, walking, Uber, and Bolt make it easy to get around. If you come with a car be careful around restricted areas where only vehicles with permits are allowed, because entering them can result in a fine.
Which beach is best for families?
For families, Banje Beach is one of the easiest options because it’s close to the Old Town and has plenty of amenities nearby. For a quieter experience, I love St. Jacob Beach, while Šunj Beach on Lopud Island is one of the best sandy beaches near Dubrovnik for families.

If you’re looking for a sandy beach near Dubrovnik, head to Šunj Beach on Lopud Island. It’s one of the few proper sandy beaches in the area and is a great choice if you want a break from Dubrovnik’s usual pebble beaches.
Where can you watch the sunset?
For one of the best sunset views in Dubrovnik, head up to Mount Srd, where you can watch the sun set over the Old Town, Adriatic Sea, and surrounding islands. I’ve been there myself, and the panoramic view from the viewpoint is absolutely incredible.
Is Dubrovnik good for families?
Yes, Dubrovnik is great for families! There’s plenty to see and do, and most activities can be just as enjoyable for parents as they are for kids.
I do have to say that Dubrovnik can be a bit tricky if you have very small children who need a stroller. The Old Town has lots of stairs and uneven ground, so you’ll probably have to pick up and carry the stroller quite often.

The best! Dubrovnik is truly one of the best destinations for couples and a perfect honeymoon destination. There are so many gorgeous hotels, romantic restaurants, fun day trips, and beautiful Old Town landmarks that you can easily put together an amazing itinerary for couples.

Yes, Dubrovnik is very good for a beach holiday! I’m not going to say it’s the best because I’ve seen a lot of Croatia, and beach-wise I personally prefer some other locations, especially the islands. But Dubrovnik offers so much when it comes to history, attractions, and things to do, and the beaches are really just an added bonus. The sea is crystal clear, and you can also do plenty of boat tours, which I think can easily become one of the highlights of your trip!
Can you visit Dubrovnik without staying in the Old Town?
Absolutely, and that’s often an even better option! Staying outside the Old Town is usually more affordable, less crowded, and you’ll often find better accommodation options, since most of Dubrovnik’s hotels are actually outside the Old Town. I personally think Lapad is the best area to stay in Dubrovnik. It has plenty of restaurants, beaches, and things to do, while still being only a short bus or Uber ride from the Old Town.
