If you still need some convincing, here are some of the best reasons why visit Dubrovnik, especially in 2026.
I spend a lot of time in Dubrovnik every year, and each year this stunning city attracts more and more visitors. Personally, I think Dubrovnik is absolutely worth visiting, but I also understand that it’s not the perfect destination for everyone. If you’re still trying to decide whether Dubrovnik is the right fit for your trip, this guide is for you. Here are some of my favourite reasons to visit Dubrovnik this year, or any year!

15 REASONS WHY VISIT DUBROVNIK
DUBROVNIK’S OLD TOWN IS ONE OF A KIND
Dubrovnik Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it’s easy to see why. The city’s historic centre is filled with narrow cobblestone streets, medieval architecture, and charming squares. Most visitors come to Dubrovnik specifically to experience the atmosphere of the Old Town, and it truly feels like stepping back hundreds of years in time.
Honestly, the Old Town alone is reason enough to visit Dubrovnik. I’ve spent many months in Dubrovnik over the last few years, and every single time I walk through the Old Town, it takes my breath away. It’s one of those places that never loses its magic, and I genuinely think it’s something everyone should experience at least once in their lifetime.

DUBROVNIK HAS ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE CITY WALLS IN THE WORLD
One of Dubrovnik’s most incredible landmarks and best activities is walking the City Walls of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is encircled by imposing stone walls that have protected Dubrovnik for centuries, and they are incredibly well-preserved. Walking along the walls is a must-do for anyone who is visiting this city for the first time. I love the fact that they offer panoramic views of the city and the Adriatic Sea.
You can buy tickets to the City Walls online or on the spot at each of the entrances to the city Walls. The tickets are 40 euros for adults and 15 for children and students with a valid student card. Here’s everything you need to know before visiting the City Walls! While it might be pricey, this is one of the main reasons why visit Dubrovnik. The walls are just breathtaking!

DUBROVNIK IS HOME TO SEVERAL GAME OF THRONES FILMING LOCATIONS
If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you surely know that Dubrovnik served as King’s Landing in the TV series. Any fan of the show will recognise iconic landmarks all over the city! Some of them are Stradun, Lovrijenac Fortress, and the Jesuit staircase. If you’re interested, you can take many Game of Thrones guided tours that will take you all over the city. In case you want to do it by yourself, here’s a self-guided tour you can recreate once you’re in Dubrovnik!

THERE ARE STUNNING BEACHES OVERLOOKING THE OLD TOWN
The Dubrovnik region is home to numerous beautiful beaches, mostly rocky and pebbly, offering crystal-clear waters and picturesque surroundings. The most gorgeous views you can get in Dubrovnik are those of the Old Town while lounging around. Some of the beaches with the best views of the Old Town are St. Jacob’s Beach, Banje Beach, Porporela, and Komarda Beach. These beaches are a must if you want to swim with incredible views of the Old Town. If you’re looking for one reason why visit Dubrovnik, the beaches are it!

YOU CAN EXPLORE THE RICH HISTORY OF DUBROVNIK
Dubrovnik’s history dates back over a millennium, and the city has been influenced by various cultures and civilizations. All of those influences are amazingly preserved in landmarks and museums. Some of the most prominent landmarks and museums you must visit are: City Walls, Stradun, Rector’s Palace, and the Homeland War Museum.

DUBROVNIK OFFERS SOME OF THE BEST FOOD IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
Croatian cuisine is known for its fresh seafood, olive oil, and Mediterranean flavors. In Dubrovnik, you can enjoy delicious local dishes in quaint restaurants and seaside taverns. The food alone is a perfect reason why visit Dubrovnik! Some of the best local meals include black risotto, grilled fish, octopus salad, meat Peka, Pasticada, and oysters. Here’s a detailed Dubrovnik restaurant guide in which I break down all the best restaurants in Dubrovnik according to your budget!

DUBROVNIK HAS BREATHTAKING SUNSETS
Dubrovnik’s coastal location offers some of the most spectacular sunsets you’ll ever witness. It’s worth coming to Dubrovnik just for the sunsets, that’s how stunning they are. There are several great viewpoints for a sunset, but some of my favorites are Mount Srd, Fort Lovrijenac, City Walls, Buza Bar, and a sunset boat tour.

YOU CAN ISLAND HOP TO MANY INCREDIBLE ISLANDS
While Dubrovnik itself is a stunning destination, you can also easily access many of the nearby islands, which are also wonderful. One of the top reasons to visit Dubrovnik is its proximity to several islands like Lokrum, Mljet, and Korcula, perfect for day trips.
Lokrum is easily reachable from Dubrovnik’s old port. There’s a small ferry that takes you to Lokrum every 15 minutes during the season and the ticket price for the return trip is 30 euros. For Mljet and Korcula you can either book a ferry ticket at Jadrolinija or get a guided day trip from GetYourGuide!
YOU’LL GET SPECTACULAR VIEWS ANYWHERE IN TOWN
Dubrovnik is a really picturesque place, so no matter where you are, the views will be incredible. Some of the most charming views you’ll get just by walking through the narrow, winding streets of the Old Town. Gorgeous panoramic views are waiting on you at the City Walls, or even higher from the top of Mount Srd. For a stunning view you can also take the cable car above the Adriatic Sea.

THERE ARE PLENTY OF INTERESTING OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IN DUBROVNIK
Whether you’re into hiking, kayaking, or sailing, Dubrovnik offers a wide range of outdoor activities for adventure seekers. Some of my favorites are kayaking to Lokrum island, buggy safari to Mount Srd, Sky biking at Mount Srd, Panorama Zipline, and Swimming and Snorkeling at the Blue Cave!

YOU CAN DISCOVER PICTURESQUE VILLAGES AROUND DUBROVNIK
The Dubrovnik region is dotted with charming villages that offer a glimpse into traditional Croatian life. In many of them, you can explore narrow streets, visit local markets, and soak in the laid-back atmosphere. Some of the places you shouldn’t miss out on are Cavtat, Ston, Trsteno, and Slano.

SEA KAYAKING WILL BE AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE IN DUBROVNIK
I’ve already mentioned how there are lots of outdoor activities, and the most popular one in Dubrovnik is kayaking. Sea kayaking is a great way to get off the beaten path and experience the city’s natural beauty, and that’s why most tourists enjoy this activity.
Some of the most popular kayaking tours are the tour around the City Walls and the tour to Lokrum island. If you’re an experienced kayaker, you can rent a kayak for yourself and explore the Adriatic Sea by yourself, without a tour.
ELAPHITI ISLANDS IS AN ARCHIPELAGO WORTH VISITING
If you’re visiting Dubrovnik, definitely take a boat trip to the Elaphiti Islands. Elaphites are a group of picturesque islands located just off the coast of Dubrovnik. The islands offer pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and charming villages to explore.
You can reach them in a few different ways. Firstly, you can book one of many tours which take you to all three Elaphiti islands – Lopud, Sipan, and Kolocep. The most popular options are Karaka boat tours with lunch included, as well as the speedboat tours.
Secondly, you can buy a ferry ticket to any of the three islands and explore them on your own. The return trip is usually around 10 euros. My favourite of the 3 islands is definitely Lopud with its gorgeous sandy beach Sunj. If you don’t have time for all three, at least visit Lopud.
