Croatia has more than 1,200 islands, islets, and reefs along its Adriatic coast… so, a lot! However, only around 48 of these islands are inhabited year-round and can be visited by ferry.

The most popular Croatian island is definitely Hvar, it’s on pretty much everyone’s itinerary. Right behind it are Brac and Korcula, which are also big favourites. I’d have to say my favourites are Korcula and Lopud!

For years, Hvar was the go-to spot for nightlife. This year, with the new noise restrictions, it’s not as crazy as it used to be, but it’s still lively. Pag is super popular for the parties on Zrce Beach!

The more popular islands (like Hvar, Brac, and Korcula) are definitely expensive, while the less popular ones are usually more affordable. Groceries and everyday things can sometimes cost a bit more just because you’re on an island, and ferry ticket prices depend on how far the island is from the mainland.
How do you get to the islands?
Croatia has three main ferry companies that run passenger boats and car ferries: Jadrolinija, TP Line, and Krilo. It’s always best to book directly with them, and only use a third party if you can’t get tickets from the official sites.
Are there hidden or less touristy islands worth visiting?
There are so many islands worth visiting that don’t get as many tourists. Vis, for example, is popular because of the Blue Cave, but not a lot of people actually stay there for a few days since it’s a bit further from the mainland. Cres is beautiful, as well as Šolta, Lastovo, and Dugi Otok.
