FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

How many days should I spend in Makarska?

If you only want to see the town of Makarska, one day is enough. But if you’re looking for a relaxing holiday with amazing beaches, you can easily spend a whole week here and still not get to all the beautiful spots nearby.

What are the best beaches in Makarska?

The Makarska Riviera is full of incredible beaches. Most are pebbly with a nice, shallow entrance into the sea, which makes them perfect for kids. Here are some of the best beaches around Makarska!

Can you hike Biokovo Mountain from Makarska?

Yes, you can, but it’s a really tough climb that usually takes 6–8 hours, so it’s only for experienced hikers. For everyone else, the easier option is to just drive up to the SkyWalk viewpoint on Biokovo Mountain.

How do I get to Makarska from Split or Dubrovnik?

You can get to Makarska really easily from both Split and Dubrovnik, either by bus, car, or private transfer. Since Split is much closer, that trip is super quick, while coming from Dubrovnik will take quite a bit longer.

Is Makarska family-friendly or better for nightlife?

Makarska is honestly great for both! It’s really family-friendly thanks to the safe, shallow beaches that kids love, but at the same time it’s one of the livelier towns on the coast, with plenty of bars if you want to go out in the evening.

When is the best time to visit Makarska for good weather and fewer crowds?

June or September are the best months. July and August get super crowded, so if you’re not a fan of big crowds, I’d definitely avoid those.
