BEST GET YOUR GUIDE ACTIVITIES IN CROATIA RECOMMENDED BY A LOCAL!
There are so many incredible activities in Croatia, from island hopping and boat tours to day trips, adrenaline experiences, and historical tours.
In this blog post, I’m sharing an overview of all the activities I personally recommend that can really make your trip even better. They’re organised by cities and regions, so you can easily find the places you’re visiting and book something that fits your itinerary!

BEST DUBROVNIK ACTIVITIES
Dubrovnik is Croatia’s most popular destination, so it’s no surprise you’ll find the widest range of activities here. Some of the must-do experiences I’d recommend are Elaphiti Islands boat tour (or even a private boat tour), kayaking around the city walls, and of course the Game of Thrones tour. If you have more time, you can also choose between day trips to Mostar or Kotor, both of which are absolutely worth it!
BEST SPLIT ACTIVITIES
Split is one of the best bases for day trips and island hopping, so those are definitely the top experiences to focus on. A 3-island half-day tour is a great option if you want something relaxed (we loved it!), and if you don’t have time to stay overnight on the islands, a boat tour to Hvar and Vis is a must.
Split also has a beautiful old town, so taking a walking tour is a great way to learn more about its history. And if you have time for a day trip to a national park, both Krka National Park and Plitvice Lakes National Park are absolutely incredible day trips!
BEST HVAR ACTIVITIES
Hvar is Croatia’s most popular island, and there are some amazing activities you can do there. I’d definitely recommend a boat tour around the Pakleni Islands because it’s such a memorable experience and one of the highlights of visiting Hvar.
A wine tour or olive oil tasting is also a great way to experience local, authentic products. You can also reach the Blue Cave and Vis much quicker, so if you’re staying on Hvar for a few days, it’s actually a better place to do that tour from rather than Split.
BEST KORCULA ACTIVITIES
Korcula is a more authentic and local island, so there aren’t as many organised activities as in bigger destinations, but there are still some great experiences to try. A buggy tour is definitely one of the highlights and a really fun way to explore the island. I’d also highly recommend a walking tour of Korcula Old Town to learn more about its history and see its beautiful streets. If you’re up for something more active, kayaking from Lumbarda is an amazing option and a great way to enjoy the sea and nearby islands.
BEST PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK ACTIVITIES
Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia’s most popular national park, and there are day tours available from almost every major city nearby. The most common departures are from Zagreb, Zadar, and Split.
If you’re not planning to drive there yourself, I’d highly recommend booking a day trip because that’s such an easy and stress-free way to visit. This is truly one of those places you simply can’t miss when visiting Croatia!
BEST KRKA NATIONAL PARK ACTIVITIES
If Plitvice Lakes National Park is too far from your itinerary, then Krka National Park is a great alternative. While it might not be quite as jaw-dropping as Plitvice, it’s still incredibly beautiful and absolutely worth visiting. We visited again recently and it really reminded me just how stunning it is (and yes, a bit pricey too). If you only have time for one national park, this is still a fantastic choice!
BEST ISTRIA ACTIVITIES
Istria as a whole is a total gem, and you can easily enjoy your time here just as much as in Dalmatia. While you’re here, I’d highly recommend doing a truffle hunting tour because it’s such a unique and local experience. Make sure to also visit Groznjan and Motovun, which are two of the most charming hilltop towns in the region.
Another great activity is dolphin watching from Porec. We actually spoke to tour providers there, and they said they’ve been spotting dolphins almost every single day this year!
BEST ZAGREB ACTIVITIES
Finally, I’ve left the capital for the end. While many people don’t find Zagreb that exciting at first glance, it actually has some really great activities to offer.
I’d definitely recommend doing a culinary tour, where you can try authentic local dishes and get a better feel for Croatian cuisine. A day trip to Ljubljana is also a great option because it’s quick and lets you explore another capital in just one day. And if you’re looking for something a bit different, there’s even puppy yoga! I haven’t tried it myself yet, but it looks absolutely adorable.
CONCLUSION: BEST GET YOUR GUIDE ACTIVITIES IN CROATIA
Croatia is full of amazing activities, and I’d recommend adding at least 2–3 in each city you visit, especially if you want a more authentic experience through walking tours, history tours, or food tours. All of these have great reviews and are led by local Croatians who really know how to show you the best of the country!
