Hey, there are of plenty of things to see on this route, once we combined Zagreb - Rastoke - Plitvice - Rovinj,

and finally Zagreb - Motovun - Gorznjan - Rovinj
Top 5 Places to visit in Istria
In Istria there are plenty of small beautiful towns, mentioned above in the guide for top 5 places, also there is a great national Park on an island which I would recommend.
Brijuni National Park (Great visit if you are in Pula or Rovinj))
Restaurants you can find plenty of good ones in Croatia, close to Plitvice Lakes called Feniks, in Labin we ate once, also a great city to sightsee called Pizzeria Rumore, close to Rovinj Restaurant Orca etc. if you will have a specific city just ask.
