PIG BEACH BAHAMAS TOUR: OUR ROSE ISLAND SWIMMING PIGS EXPERIENCE

We’re huge fans of little pigs, so as soon as we knew we were going to the Bahamas, booking a swimming pigs experience was at the top of our list. Since we were visiting by cruise, we didn’t have enough time to go all the way to Exuma, where the original Pig Beach is. Instead, we visited Rose Island, which is much closer, and had an amazing time. Keep reading to find out more about our experience swimming with the pigs!

WHERE WE BOOKED OUR PIG BEACH BAHAMAS TOUR
As I mentioned, we visited Rose Island since it was close enough to fit into our cruise schedule. We booked our tour through GetYourGuide for around $75, and it was such a great choice. IS IT WORTH DOING THIS PIG BEACH BAHAMAS TOUR
It’s absolutely worth visiting, we loved it! The pigs are adorable, the beach resort is beautiful with great amenities, and the beaches are just stunning. Honestly, we have no complaints about this tour at all. The drinks are a bit pricey, but that’s pretty expected for this kind of experience. If we ever come back to the Bahamas, we’d 100% do this again!
OUR EXPERIENCE OF THE PIG BEACH BAHAMAS TOUR ON ROSE ISLAND
FERRY RIDE
Our meeting point was at the cruise port at 9:30 a.m. We didn’t leave right away because the ferry had to wait for a large cruise ship to dock first, so our tour actually started closer to 10 a.m. You actually have two options for pickup. If you’re arriving by cruise, you’ll be picked up at the cruise port, or if you’re staying in Nassau, you can meet at Señor Frog’s.
The ferry wasn’t too crowded. There were maybe around 30 of us on board, so there was plenty of space to sit comfortably. The ride took about 45 minutes, and since the weather wasn’t great that morning, the water was a bit choppy. Definitely not ideal if you’re prone to seasickness. Just before 11 a.m., we arrived at the stunning Sand Dollar Beach Resort.
MEETING THE PIGGIES
We were so excited to finally meet the piggies, and that’s exactly what we did first thing once we arrived, around 11 a.m. When you start, you’re given a small cup of carrots and a stick to feed the pigs with. Everyone lines up in the water while the staff (who clearly take great care of the pigs) gives a short safety talk and instructions.
Once the pigs are released, you get about 15–20 minutes to feed them, which is plenty of time to use up your carrots and enjoy the moment. The pigs were super lively but not aggressive at all, you can safely be around them without any issues. There were around 10 of them, and since our morning group wasn’t too large, it never felt crowded or rushed. Everyone got to have their turn and enjoy the experience.
After about 20 minutes, the pigs head back to their pen, and one adorable little piglet is brought out for photos. It was such a cute moment, everyone absolutely loved that tiny piggy!
AMENITIES
After the pig experience, we had just under two hours to relax and enjoy the resort. Honestly, it was such a perfect way to end the day. You get access to quite a few things: beach chairs, hammocks, kayaks, paddleboards, and more, all included in the price. There’s also a beach bar and restaurant on-site, and some ticket options include lunch and drinks. Ours didn’t, but we weren’t too hungry, so we just grabbed a couple of drinks instead.
The drinks were definitely on the pricey side (two Sands beers were $17), but that’s pretty standard for a private island experience, so we weren’t surprised. The resort also has clean restrooms and free Wi-Fi, which was a nice bonus.
The main beach right in front of the restaurant is honestly one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. The color of the water and the soft white sand were just unreal. It’s one of those places that I’ll think about forever.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE
We had such a great experience! When we arrived in Nassau, the weather was cloudy with a bit of rain, but going to Rose Island gave us the sunshine we were hoping for. Everything went smoothly — we found our tour operator easily, the ferry ride was great, and we returned right on time, with plenty of time to explore Nassau afterward. The pigs were absolutely adorable, and the whole experience was something we’ll truly remember forever. I’d highly recommend this tour, it was such a fun and unforgettable day!
TIPS FOR VISITING
- Bring a hat and a cover-up for the ferry ride – it gets windy, and the sun is strong, so you could burn easily.
- Put on plenty of sunscreen!
- Bring a camera – the pigs are absolutely adorable, and you’ll want to capture every moment.
- Pack a towel for the beach.
- Don’t feed the pigs with your fingers, only with the sticks they give you (they might nibble by accident!).
- Wear your bathing suit or beachwear – even if you think you won’t swim, you definitely will once you see that water!
