MIAMI IN NOVEMBER: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING

If you’re visiting Miami in November and wondering what your experience is going to be like, my November guide is exactly what you need!

Miami is one of the most visited destinations in the U.S., and it gets especially popular in winter because of the lovely weather. We usually visit Miami in November, and we’ve always had a great experience, with warm weather, fewer crowds, and really affordable accommodation.

So, keep reading this blog post to find out everything you should know before visiting Miami in November, including the weather, crowds, prices, what to pack, and the best things to do!

IS NOVEMBER A GOOD TIME TO VISIT MIAMI?

Yes, November is a really good time to visit Miami, especially if you want warm weather without the crowds and higher prices you’ll find later in winter. The weather is usually warm and sunny, so you can still enjoy the beaches, go swimming, and spend plenty of time outdoors. We usually visit Miami in November, and we’ve always had a great experience. We had a few rainy days, but overall the majority of our days in Miami each November are really sunny and warm.

I also find that accommodation to be more affordable than during the peak winter months, which is another big reason why I like visiting at this time of year. You can find some really great hotels in Miami for a better price than you would in February for example!

WHY VISIT MIAMI IN NOVEMBER

There are plenty of reasons to visit Miami in November, especially if you want to enjoy the city beyond just lying on the beach. November is a great month for exploring Miami, taking day trips, going shopping, and spending time outdoors without dealing with intense summer temperatures. It’s also a good time to visit places like the Everglades or take a trip down to the Florida Keys, because you can comfortably spend the whole day outside. If you’re planning to combine Miami with other parts of Florida, November is a great time to do it and we’ve experienced that first-hand!

MIAMI WEATHER IN NOVEMBER

Miami’s weather in November is one of the main reasons to visit. It’s the start of the dry season, so you’ll generally enjoy warm, sunny days with much lower humidity than in the summer. This makes it much easier to explore the city and enjoy your holiday without feeling too hot. I’m not going to lie and say there’s no humidity in November, but it’s much easier to deal with than later in the season.

DOES IT RAIN IN MIAMI IN NOVEMBER?

There’s still a chance of rain, but November is much drier than the summer months. During our last visit, we only had one rainy day in a whole week, so it really didn’t affect our trip. Hurricane season officially ends on November 30, so there can still be a chance of tropical weather earlier in the month, but the risk generally decreases as November goes on. If you visit at the end of the month like we usually do (around Black Friday) you should be totally fine!

IS THE OCEAN WARM ENOUGH TO SWIM IN MIAMI IN NOVEMBER?

Yes! The ocean is nice and warm in November, so you can definitely go swimming and enjoy the beach. If you’re visiting Miami in November, I’d absolutely pack your swimsuit because the water is warm enough for swimming, snorkelling, and other water activities. So, if you’re worried that November might be too cold for a beach holiday, you really don’t need to be!

WHAT TO PACK FOR MIAMI IN NOVEMBER

Packing for Miami in November is pretty simple. Days are warm and sunny, so focus on swimwear, cover-ups, and light, breathable clothing like cotton or linen. I usually pack shorts, T-shirts, dresses, and comfy sneakers and sandals. Evenings do get a little breezy, especially if you’re near the water, so a light jacket, blazer, or sweater always comes in handy.

If you’re planning to go out, bring something a bit dressier for rooftop bars, nice restaurants, or an evening out in South Beach. And don’t forget sun protection! Sunglasses, a hat, and plenty of sunscreen are a must, even in November.

If you’re planning to spend a lot of time at the beach or take day trips, I’d also pack a beach bag, reusable water bottle, and a small waterproof bag for your phone and other valuables. And if you’re heading to the Florida Keys, bring your snorkel gear if you have your own, especially if you’re planning to spend time in the water.

IS MIAMI CROWDED AND EXPENSIVE IN NOVEMBER

CROWDS

November is shoulder season in Miami, which means you’ll generally find fewer crowds compared to December through early spring. You’ll see more locals than tourists, and there’s usually more space at the beaches, restaurants, and popular attractions. Things do get a bit busier toward the end of the month, especially around Thanksgiving, but we always visit at that time and the crowds are still very manageable. I honestly can’t even imagine the crowds of the peak season!

PRICES

Because it’s not peak season yet, flights and hotels are usually cheaper than during the busiest winter months, which is another big plus of visiting Miami in November. Food and drinks can still be pricey, especially in popular areas like South Beach, but you can easily find great restaurants and bars at more reasonable prices if you know where to look. If you’re travelling on a budget, November can be a good time to visit without paying the higher prices you’ll often see later in the winter. We always manage to find decently priced hotels right there on South Beach!

THANKSGIVING IN MIAMI

If you’re visiting Miami around Thanksgiving, expect things to get a little busier and some prices to increase, especially around hotels and flights. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and many Americans travel during this period.

However, Miami is still a fun place to spend Thanksgiving, especially if you want to combine a holiday in the city with some beach time. Just make sure to book your accommodation and any popular restaurants in advance if you’re visiting over the Thanksgiving weekend. I also adore visiting around Thanksgiving because Black Friday shopping at places like Sawgrass Mills is just incredible!

BEST THINGS TO DO IN MIAMI IN NOVEMBER

If you’re looking for the best things to do in Miami, here’s a quick overview of my favourite spots. But if you want a more detailed plan, definitely check out my Miami 4-Day Itinerary we did in November!

ENJOY NOVEMBER EVENTS

November is a pretty popular month in Miami, so there are usually plenty of fun events and things going on throughout the city. Some of the most popular events include the Miami Book Fair, URGE Miami Festival, and the Beach Polo World Cup. You’ll also find plenty of other sports, music, food, and cultural events happening throughout the month, so there’s usually something going on while you’re visiting.

GO TO THE BEACH

One of the best and most fun things to do in Miami is, of course, go to the beach. The beaches are much quieter in November, and most times we were there, only a few other people were around (which was perfect)! The most popular beach is, of course, Miami Beach, especially the South Beach area. We usually stay right on Ocean Drive, and having the beach just a few steps away is absolutely amazing. If you want to explore beyond Miami Beach, check out Key Biscayne. It’s really close and a lovely place for a swim!

EXPLORE SOUTH BEACH

South Beach is the heart of Miami Beach and the liveliest part of the whole area. If you can, I’d highly encourage you to stay there. It’s full of amazing bars, restaurants, and shopping streets. You can play volleyball by the beach, ride a bike down the Boardwalk, or walk to the South Pointe Pier and enjoy the parks, beaches, and ocean views. South Beach really is the best part of Miami Beach, and you should give it at least a full day to see and enjoy everything it has to offer.

EXPLORE DOWNTOWN MIAMI

While I don’t find Downtown Miami as exciting as some other parts of the city, there are still a few great spots worth visiting. Bayside Marketplace is really fun, and Bayfront Park is gorgeous for a walk. You can visit a couple of museums, or even catch a basketball game or concert at the Kaseya Center. From downtown, it’s also easy to head over to Calle Ocho and explore Little Havana, which adds a nice cultural touch to your day.

GO ON DAY TRIPS

Miami has so many amazing day trip options you really should explore. Two of the best ones are definitely Everglades National Park (where you can see alligators in the wild), and Key West (perfect for relaxing beach days and snorkeling). You can also visit Key Largo or Fort Lauderdale, and if you’ve got a couple of extra days, go to Orlando to visit Universal Studios!

GO SHOPPING

You can do some incredible shopping in Miami. The city is famous for its shopping streets and centres, but I have to highlight two amazing outlet malls Dolphin Mall and Sawgrass Mills. Dolphin Mall is closer to Miami and a bit smaller, while Sawgrass Mills, about 45 minutes away, is absolutely incredible and has so much to offer. Visiting Sawgrass is honestly the highlight of my trip every time we’re there, and it’s especially incredible around Black Friday. They’ve got plenty of luxury outlets with amazing prices, so it’s a must if you love shopping!

I absolutely love Miami in November, and it will always be my go-to month to visit. Every time we’ve been, the weather was perfect and there were practically no crowds. It’s honestly mind-blowing how relaxed and laid-back our trips feel when we go in November. On top of that, it’s much more affordable, which means more money left for Sawgrass Mills. Obviously, that’s a win for me!
