THE BEST HOTELS IN PULA, CROATIA: HOTELS I GENUINELY RECOMMEND!

If you’re looking for great accommodation in Pula, you’re in the right place because these are the best hotels in Pula I’d personally recommend!

Pula is especially popular with travellers who want to explore Istria or even parts of North Dalmatia. Many visitors come to Pula for the impressive Roman ruins (particularly the famous Pula Arena) and use the town as a base for day trips around Istria. After a full day of sightseeing, there’s nothing better than returning to a comfortable, relaxing hotel and that’s exactly why I want to help you choose the right one.

When deciding where to stay in Pula, you can choose between accommodation in the city center, close to historic landmarks, restaurants, and lively streets, or somewhere a bit outside the centre where the atmosphere is calmer and more resort-like. Personally, I’d choose one of the fantastic hotels in Verudela, but more on those in a moment!

Whether you’re planning a romantic honeymoon, a family beach holiday, or a quick city break, Pula is a wonderful place to stay while exploring Istria. As a local Croatian, I’ve hand-picked the best hotels based on location, comfort, atmosphere, and overall experience so you’re bound to find at least one that feels perfect for your trip. MY LIST OF THE BEST HOTELS IN PULA

GRAND HOTEL BRIONI PULA

Best for: Luxury travellers, couples, calm seaside stays, spa lovers

Grand Hotel Brioni is probably the best luxury hotel in Pula. There are quite a few fantastic hotels across Istria, but when it comes to Pula specifically, this one truly stands out for me.

It’s located on the beautiful Verudela Peninsula, right next to two easily accessible beaches, which is a huge plus. While it’s outside the city centre, the location is peaceful, calm, and perfect for relaxation. At the same time, you’re only a short drive from Pula’s historic centre, so sightseeing is still very easy.

The hotel itself is stunning, with comfort, wellness, and breathtaking sea views as its main focus. The rooms are elegant and luxurious, and the overall atmosphere feels calm rather than busy. Because of that, I’d say it’s an excellent choice for couples looking for a romantic and relaxing escape.

One of the biggest highlights is the incredible spa and wellness area, which is a major reason many guests choose this hotel. On top of that, the food is excellent, and the beautiful outdoor pool overlooking the Adriatic is simply the cherry on top.

Highlights of the hotel:

  • One of the most luxurious hotels in Pula
  • Sea-view rooms
  • 2 beaches within walking distance
  • High-end spa and wellness facilities (saunas)
  • Outdoor pool overlooking the sea
  • Great dining experience

Nearby attractions:

First of all, you’ll have easy access to Verudela’s beaches and beautiful coastal walkways. These are perfect for swimming during the day or taking evening strolls along the sea. Pula Old Town is only about a 10–15 minute drive away. If you don’t have a car, you can easily use Bolt or Uber to get there quickly and comfortably.

From Pula, you can also plan easy day trips to Rovinj or visit Brijuni National Park. Both are close enough to explore without feeling rushed.

PARK PLAZA ARENA PULA

Best for: Couples, adults, relaxed beach holidays

Another fantastic option on the Verudela Peninsula is Park Plaza Arena Pula, located quite close to Grand Hotel Brioni. However, this hotel is more affordable, which makes it a great alternative if you’re looking for style and comfort without the ultra-luxury price tag.

It’s modern, comfortable, and offers direct access to the sea, which is a huge plus. However, it doesn’t have a full spa and wellness center like Brioni, so if spa facilities are the main focus of your holiday, Brioni would still be the better choice.

The rooms here are bright, contemporary, and very comfortable. If your budget allows, booking one of the suites is absolutely worth it! You’ll practically have a small apartment to yourself, complete with a private jacuzzi. Guests love staying here because of the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. While Park Plaza also has another more family-oriented hotel nearby, this one is more adult-focused and relaxing. I truly can’t recommend this one enough because it’s an excellent combination of location, comfort, and value.

Highlights of the hotel:

  • Direct access to beaches
  • Calm, adult-friendly atmosphere
  • Modern rooms and design
  • Walking distance to restaurants and bars
  • Excellent value for location

Nearby attractions:

Once again, staying on the Verudela Peninsula means you’ll have beautiful beaches and coastal walkways right at your doorstep. From here, the rest of Istria is only a short drive away, so it’s incredibly easy to explore the region. I’d definitely recommend spending some time in Pula Old Town, as well as visiting Rovinj, Gorznjan, Brijuni National Park and so on.

PARK PLAZA HISTRIA PULA

Best for: Families, resort-style stays, first-time visitors

Park Plaza Histria Pula is one of the largest hotels in Pula, and it’s a very popular choice for families and travelers who like having everything in one place. While it’s not strictly a family hotel like some nearby resorts, it offers so many facilities that it works especially well for families.

Just like the other mentioned hotels, it’s located at the end of the beautiful Verudela Peninsula. You’ll have pools, restaurants, bars, and beach access all within easy walking distance, so your stay will be easy and relaxed.

The rooms are spacious, modern, and comfortable, and many have amazing sea views, which is always a big plus. Keep in mind that this is a larger and busier hotel compared to some others in Pula, so it’s a great option if you enjoy a more lively atmosphere with plenty going on. If you prefer something quieter and more intimate, I’d personally choose Park Plaza Arena Pula instead.

Highlights of the hotel:

  • Resort-style facilities
  • Indoor and outdoor pools
  • Family-friendly layout
  • Multiple restaurants and bars
  • Easy beach access

Nearby attractions:

Just like the previous few hotels, Pula Old Town is only a short drive away. You can easily explore the city, and the rest of Istria is perfectly close for easy day trips.

HOTEL AMFITEATAR PULA

Best for: Sightseeing, short stays, city breaks

If you’re looking for something more affordable right in the city centre, Hotel Amfiteatar is a fantastic choice. This small boutique hotel is located right next to the famous Pula Arena, so it’s one of the best options if sightseeing is your main priority. You’ll be in the heart of Pula, and everything worth seeing is within walking distance.

It’s also close to Pula’s ferry port, so ferries and day trip boat tours are just a short walk away. That’s super convenient if you’re planning to explore beyond the city. The rooms are simple but comfortable, and for first-time visitors, the location truly couldn’t be better. The only downside is that there’s no beach access, but that’s completely expected when staying in the city centre.

🔔 Check Hotel Amfiteatar’s availability! 🔔

Highlights of the hotel:

  • Right next to the Roman Arena
  • Excellent location for sightseeing
  • Boutique-style atmosphere
  • Walkable to restaurants and attractions

Nearby attractions:

The Pula Arena is practically on your doorstep. Pula Old Town, the Temple of Augustus, the Arch of the Sergii, and the Pula waterfront are all just a short walk away. You can easily book boat tours from the nearby ferry port, and if you have a car, exploring the rest of Istria is even quicker than if you were staying in Verudela. The only thing to keep in mind is that the beaches are at least 3 kilometres away, so you’ll need to take a taxi or drive to reach them.

RIBARSKA KOLIBA RESORT

Best for: Couples, food lovers, located in marina

If you’re looking for a gorgeous and intimate resort, Boutique Hotel Ribarska Koliba is perfect for you. It’s another gem near the Verudela Peninsula, and it’s known for its exceptional on-site restaurant. Because of that it’s perfect for foodies!

This isn’t your typical large resort. It’s a premium boutique hotel, perfect for travelers who prioritize quality, atmosphere, and outstanding dining over classic resort-style amenities or direct beach access.

The rooms are beautiful and give you incredible views, and I’d highly recommend booking a balcony room because the balconies are truly stunning. As I said, the standout feature is the restaurant, often named one of the best in Pula, where you can enjoy fresh seafood and modern Mediterranean cuisine. While it doesn’t have direct beach access, there are several beaches nearby if you’d like to go for a swim.

Highlights:

  • Excellent on-site restaurant
  • Quiet, upscale atmosphere
  • Sea-view rooms
  • Personalized service

Nearby attractions:

Strolling by the marina is definitely one of the highlights here. Pula city center is easily reachable, and the beaches on Verudela Peninsula are just a short drive away. The rest of Istria is also easy to explore, so consider day trips to RovinjBrijuni National Park, Bale, or Labin.

HOTEL VALSABBION

Best for: Boutique lovers, couples, easy beach access

Hotel Valsabbion is located in the lively area of Pjescana Uvala, but the hotel itself has a very relaxing atmosphere close to the sea since it’s smaller than typical hotels and resorts.

The hotel is just a few meters from a gorgeous pebbly beach, which is family-friendly with calm waters. It’s a public beach in a central area, so it can get crowded. If you prefer a quieter, more secluded stay, one of the Verudela hotels I mentioned earlier might be a better choice.

The rooms are lovely and spacious, and the hotel has a great restaurant and spa area. The surrounding neighbourhood will make your holiday very authentic, though it can feel lively for those looking for total peace even when stepping outside the hotel.

Highlights:

  • Boutique-style hotel
  • Spa and wellness area
  • Excellent dining
  • Close to a calm pebbly beach

Nearby attractions:

The beach is just a minute’s walk from the hotel, and Pula city centre is only a short drive away. You can explore the local area on foot, take scenic walks, or go cycling. Day trips around Istria are also very easy from this location.

FAQ – HOTELS IN PULA

Where is the best area to stay in Pula?

The Verudela Peninsula is the most popular area to stay in Pula if you want to relax, especially if you love the beach or are traveling with family. It has resorts, pools, and easy access to the sea. However, that part is not within walking distance to the city centre, so if you prefer sightseeing and dining, you should stay near Pula Old Town where you’re close to the Roman Arena, restaurants, and historic sites.

Are there family-friendly hotels in Pula?

Yes, Pula has several excellent family-friendly hotels, particularly around Verudela. Many offer kids’ pools, play areas, family rooms, and easy beach access, so they’re great for traveling with children. There are also other great family hotels in Istria (and Croatia overall) I’ve covered!

What are the best luxury hotels in Pula?

One of the top luxury options is Grand Hotel Brioni Pula. It’s on an incredible seaside location surrounded by nature, it has excellent spa facilities, as well as high-end service. It’s ideal for couples or travellers who really want a premium hotel and a luxurious stay.

Are there hotels in Pula with beach access?

Yes, many hotels in Pula give you direct or nearby beach access, especially those on the Verudela Peninsula. Most beaches are pebble beaches with crystal-clear water. They are well-maintained and family-friendly. Obviously, the hotels in the city centre can’t offer you beach access, so you have to choose what you prefer, being close to landmarks and attractions or by the beach.

Is Pula a good base for exploring Istria?

Absolutely. Pula is an excellent base for exploring Istria, and it’s almost always our base whenever we visit. From Pula you can take easy day trips to Rovinj, Porec, Brijuni National Park, and Istrian wine regions. It is necessary to have a car, since that makes exploring much easier, but public transport and boat tours are also available if that’s your only option. These are my favourite things to do in Istria if you need inspiration!

When is the best time to book hotels in Pula?

The best time to book hotels in Pula is early spring (March–April) for summer travel. July and August are peak months with higher prices, while May, June, and September offer great weather with fewer crowds and better hotel availability (also cheaper prices!).

Do hotels in Pula offer parking?

Many hotels in Pula offer free or paid parking, particularly resorts and aparthotels outside the Old Town. If you’re staying in the city center, always check parking availability in advance. If your hotel doesn’t have parking, you can park in one of the parking garages in town which they recommend (or just find a good one on Google!).

MY PERSONAL TAKE ON BEST HOTELS IN PULA

Pula is a lovely town, but it’s quite small overall. When booking a hotel, I’d choose one that offers more than just proximity to the old town. With a quality hotel, you can explore Pula and Istria during the day, then spend your afternoons and evenings relaxing at your hotel.

My personal favourites are Grand Hotel BrioniPark Plaza Arena, and Ribarska Koliba. Each of these offers incredible amenities, so you could easily spend your whole holiday at the hotel if you wanted. The right hotel and gorgeous Istria make the perfect holiday!

CONCLUSION: BEST HOTELS IN PULA

If you’re heading to Croatia and want a place that feels real, relaxed, and easy to get around, Pula is a great pick. Stay in the city centre for liveliness or on Verudela Peninsula if you want a calmer and more relaxed holiday. Either way, Istria is easy to explore from Pula, so you really can’t go wrong with any of these great hotels!
