WHY IS CROATIA A GREAT LOCATION FOR FAMILIES?

Croatia has three things you absolutely must experience: the Adriatic Sea, the incredible historic old towns, and the stunning national parks. The best part is that all of these can be easily enjoyed with or without kids.

That means your children will love what Croatia has to offer, and all you really need to do is choose the right hotel. A good family hotel will give them extra activities and entertainment, so they’re not bored when you’re not out exploring and you want some time to relax. Luckily, Croatia has some amazing hotels that focus almost entirely on family holidays, so your kids will stay happy, engaged, and entertained throughout your trip.

KID-FRIENDLY HOTELS IN ISTRIA

Istria is one of the most family-friendly regions in Croatia. If you’re planning a family vacation, this should be at the very top of your list. Along with some excellent family hotels, Istria is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for exploring by car. The Adriatic Sea here is just as beautiful as in the rest of Croatia, which makes Istria a great destination for families.

FAMILY HOTEL AMARIN IN ROVINJ

Best for: all‑inclusive family fun near Rovinj

Family Hotel Amarin is one of the most popular kid-friendly hotels in Croatia, and it’s loved by both tourists and locals. This hotel is often full even in the off-season because Croatian parents love to visit it with their kids. That already says enough!

The entire property is designed completely with families in mind and they make a strong effort to meet every need you or your kids might have. If you decide to book this one, you’ll receive a list of things your kids might need, and everything will be waiting for you in your room when you arrive. The staff are incredibly attentive, and you’ll truly love your stay there. Believe it or not, even the buffet is designed specifically for kids, so they can serve themselves at breakfast or dinner.

There are plenty of pools and daily activities for your kids to enjoy, and even the rooms have some kind of fun activities or games for children. The beach there is also beautiful with gentle entrance into the sea and shallow water. Our friends absolutely love this place and visit both in and off season. Many families say it’s the best family hotel they’ve ever stayed at, which is why I highly recommend this one!

Highlights for children:

  • Kids’ clubs for different age groups, from babies to teens
  • Multiple outdoor pools, splash zones, and a lazy river
  • Indoor playrooms and soft-play areas
  • Spacious family rooms and apartments
  • Located on the beach with shallow water areas

Nearby attractions:

There’s plenty to do nearby if you even decide to leave this amazing family resort. The closest option is Rovinj, which you should definitely visit because it’s close and incredibly charming. You can also take an easy day trip to Pula to explore the Roman ruins, or visit Brijuni National Park, which I HIGHLY recommend.

Brijuni is probably the best national park in Croatia for kids. It has a safari park where you can see various animals, dinosaur footprints in certain parts of the park, and you can explore the island in golf carts, which is always a huge hit with children!

VALAMAR GIRANDELLA FAMILY HOTEL IN RABAC

Best for: beach‑loving families and outdoor activities

If you’re looking for a holiday in a more remote location, this family hotel in Rabac could be a great choice for you. Valamar Girandella Family Hotel is located right by the sea, and it’s a really fun place where kids can stay active and entertained. It’s not close to huge, overly popular tourist spots, which makes it much more relaxed.

You can still easily explore other parts of Istria from here, but this hotel is perfect if you want to stay put and enjoy the beach, pools, and on-site activities without constantly rushing around. Kids will be fully entertained with pools, movie and video game rooms, climbing walls, playgrounds, and more, while you get the relaxing holiday you truly deserve.

Highlights for children:

  • Maro Kids Club programs for all ages
  • Several pools and children’s splash areas
  • Teen hang‑out zones and gaming rooms
  • Family beaches with lifeguards

You can easily explore the nearby towns of Rabac and Labin. They’re not very big, but they have charming old towns, several great restaurants, and beautiful views. If you have a car, Pula and the incredible Brijuni National Park are also quite close and make perfect day trips!

VALAMAR TAMARIS RESORT IN POREC

Best for: active families and younger children

If you’re thinking of staying near Porec, Valamar Tamaris Resort could be a great option. This hotel also provides a full family experience, though I wouldn’t rank it quite as high as the two I mentioned earlier. The resort offers a variety of organized sports activities, a fun sea water park, and several pebble beaches where you can enjoy swimming with your children. For extra fun, the hotel has game rooms, playgrounds, and programs led by a team of animators who take care of the kids while you relax.

As I mentioned before, the two other hotels, especially Amarin, are a bit better overall, but Valamar Tamaris is more affordable, so it’s perfect for families who want a fun holiday without completely breaking the bank.

Highlights for children:

  • Large kids’ entertainment zone
  • Daily and evening animation programs
  • Sports facilities and playgrounds
  • Family‑friendly restaurants and buffets

Nearby attractions:

If your kids love water parks, you’re in the perfect spot. There are two aquaparks in Croatia less than a 40-minute drive from Porec. Aquacolors Water Park is one of the largest in the country, featuring wave pools, lazy rivers, thrilling slides, and dedicated kids’ zones for hours of fun. Another excellent option is Istralandia, near Novigrad, which offers slides, splash areas, and gentle waves perfect for younger kids and teens.

If your children want a different kind of adventure, Dinopark Funtana is just 8 km from Porec. This dinosaur-themed park has life-size dino replicas and interactive exhibits, so it’s both educational and entertaining for kids of all ages.

For a bit of exploration in Istria, two gorgeous historical towns are nearby: Motovun and Groznjan. Motovun is an incredible hilltop town, and Groznjan might be my personal favourite in Istria, so I’d definitely recommend visiting both!

KID-FRIENDLY HOTELS IN KVARNER

Kvarner isn’t as popular as Dalmatia or even Istria, but it’s known for beautiful islands, nature-focused activities, and a very relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great choice for families who want a peaceful, slower-paced holiday away from crowded tourist areas. The most popular destinations in this region are Krk, Losinj, and Cres.

FALKENSTEINER HOTEL PARK PUNAT ON KRK

Best for: families who want family-friendly amenities in a central location

While this isn’t an exclusively family-focused hotel, like most Falkensteiner properties, Hotel Park Punat is still very family-friendly and offers plenty of amenities that kids will love. The hotel is located in Punat, which isn’t overly crowded but is close to two popular spots: Krk Town and Baska.

This hotel is perfect for families who enjoy spending time by the pool and going down water slides, because that’s what Falkensteiner did best here! You’ll also be close to shops, bars, and restaurants, so you’ll have plenty of options for activities outside the hotel as well.

The only downside is that the hotel doesn’t have direct beach access, so you’ll either need to be happy with the pools or head out to find a beach nearby. Luckily, Krk Island has some fantastic beaches, make sure you visit at least one of them!

Highlights for children:

  • Large outdoor pools with slides
  • Falky Land indoor play area
  • Mini golf, cycling paths, and sports
  • Car-free walking zones near the hotel

FAMILY HOTEL VESPERA ON LOSINJ

Best for: nature‑loving families that love cycling, tennis, slow-paced and relaxing holidays

Hotel Vespera is part of the Kinderhotels Europe group, which means it’s completely designed with families in mind. The hotel offers plenty of amenities and it’s located in a fantastic spot on Losinj. The hotel focuses strongly on family life and they provide structured childcare, spacious rooms, and all the amenities a you’ll need for a comfortable, stress-free stay.

Kids have plenty to enjoy here, from playgrounds and playrooms to pools, swings, and organized entertainment programs. There are also lovely nearby beaches where you can enjoy the calm, clear sea.

There aren’t many attractions close to the hotel, Losinj is still quite untouched and not overly touristy, but that’s part of its charm. You’ll really get to enjoy every aspect of the hotel itself, along with the beautiful Adriatic Sea and the peaceful atmosphere of the island.

Highlights for children:

  • Supervised kids’ programs
  • Safe beaches and calm sea
  • Family excursions and outdoor activities
  • Emphasis on healthy meals and routines

If you have a car, you can also drive over to Cres, another gorgeous and still relatively untouched Croatian island that’s well worth visiting.

KID-FRIENDLY HOTELS IN DALMATIA

Dalmatia is by far the most popular region in Croatia, so it’s home to some really fantastic family hotels, although they do tend to be quite expensive. I absolutely adore Dalmatia, and if you’re visiting Croatia for the first time, this is the region I’d recommend focusing on. In Dalmatia you’ll get amazing family-friendly beaches, stunning coastal towns, and great water parks that your children will love. Honestly, what’s not to like?

FALKENSTEINER FAMILY HOTEL DIADORA NEAR ZADAR

Best for: High‑end family resorts with plenty of kids’ facilities

Along with Amarin in Rovinj, Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora is definitely known as one of the best family hotels in Croatia. Personally, I’d even choose this one between the two, simply because I’d rather be in Dalmatia than Istria if you’re visiting Croatia for the first time. The hotel is in an amazing location very close to Zadar, which means you’ll have plenty of great options for day trips and exploring the area.

This Falkensteiner family hotel is truly out of this world, and both you and your kids will absolutely love staying here. The hotel offers only family rooms, and they’re fantastic. You’ll have direct beach access, large indoor and outdoor pools, and multiple play areas designed for kids to have endless fun.

There’s something here for children of all ages, so no matter how old your kids are, they’ll find something to enjoy. That could be the pools, playgrounds, game rooms, or the various workshops and activities organized by the hotel. Honestly, your kids will be so entertained all day long that you might even forget they’re there (in the best possible way!).

Highlights for children:

  • Large indoor and outdoor kids’ worlds
  • Professional animation and workshops
  • Pools, swimming lessons, and sports
  • Spa and wellness facilities for parents

This is another amazing family hotel in Dalmatia, located near SibenikAmadria Park Family Hotel is part of a few hotels in the area, but this one is specifically focused on kids, and trust me, your family will love it.

Not only is the hotel designed with children in mind, it’s also right next to Aquapark Dalmatia (additional cost applies), which makes it a perfect option if you have teens who want some extra fun.

At the hotel, you’ll enjoy spacious family rooms, easy access to the beach, hotel pools, and the waterpark. While many of the activities are water-based, there are also plenty of options for younger children, including game rooms, playgrounds, and organized animation programs. MEDORA AURI FAMILY BEACH RESORT IN PODGORA

Best for: families who want relaxed beach holidays with family amenities

Finally, if you want a hotel stay with access to some of the best beaches in Croatia, Medora Auri Beach Resort is definitely it! This isn’t exclusively a family hotel, but it does have plenty of amenities to keep kids entertained.

It’s located in Podgora, right on the stunning Makarska Riviera, which in my (and many others’) opinion, has some of the best beaches in Croatia. Honestly, the real magic of Podgora lies in its beaches and the crystal-clear sea, so I’d recommend spending every possible minute on the beach and in the water. FAQ – KID-FRIENDLY HOTELS IN CROATIA

What makes a hotel kid‑friendly in Croatia?

Kid‑friendly hotels usually have kids’ clubs, child‑safe pools, family rooms, animation programs, and flexible dining options. Many also have baby equipment and babysitting services which you can use. Overall, they’re focused on making your family holiday as easy and comfortable as possible.

Are Croatian beaches suitable for children?

Yes. Most beaches in Croatia have shallow, calm waters with gentle entrance into the sea, especially in Istria and Dalmatia. Most beaches are pebbled not sandy, but because of that the water is very clean. Definitely get some water shoes for the kids to make it more comfortable for them, but they’ll love it.

When is the best time to visit Croatia with kids?

The best months for a family trip are May, June, and September. The weather is warm, the sea is mostly pleasant, and crowds are smaller than in peak summer. You might not be able to swim in the sea in May, but the hotels surely have pools which will be perfect. September is the perfect month if you still want to enjoy the sea but with smaller crowds, and probably even better prices.

Do family hotels in Croatia offer babysitting?

Many larger resorts offer babysitting or supervised kids’ programs, either included or for an additional fee. Make sure you contact them and check in advance if this is important for your stay.

Is it better to stay in one place or move around?

I’d say for families with younger children, it’s better to stay in one well‑equipped hotel and do day trips around your area. If you’re visiting with teens, you’ll have no problem changing accommodation.

MY PERSONAL TAKE ON KID-FRIENDLY HOTELS IN CROATIA

Choosing the right hotel can truly make or break a family holiday, and luckily, Croatia makes that decision a little easier. Personally, I’d go straight for Amarin in Rovinj, Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera near Zadar, or Amadria Park Hotel Andrija in Sibenik.

These hotels really offer the best of the best when it comes to family stays in Croatia, and they’ll make your trip truly unforgettable. If you’re traveling with children and are still debating between a family hotel or an apartment by the sea, trust me, your holiday will be so much more relaxing if someone else can keep the kids entertained for a while. You absolutely deserve it!

CONCLUSION: KID-FRIENDLY HOTELS IN CROATIA

Croatia has no shortage of kid-friendly and fully family-oriented hotels, so you’ll definitely find one that fits your needs. These are my absolute favorites, and I’m confident that any of them would make your stay in Croatia unforgettable. Your children will be talking about the experience for years to come!
