Tenerife is a small yet stunning island where you can spend days, weeks, or even months. It’s both relaxing and exciting, so no matter how long you stay, you’ll have a great time. Although we spent only a week there, we agreed that we’d love to return for a month and simply enjoy life as it is.

WHERE IS TENERIFE
Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, is located just off the northwest coast of Africa in the Atlantic Ocean. Although it’s close to Africa, it is part of Spain. The island enjoys a subtropical climate which means it’s quite warm there all throughout the year. The island is known for its diverse landscapes, which will sweep you off your feet. Those include a volcano, green forests, and sandy beaches. The capital city is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the island is has two airports: Tenerife North and Tenerife South.
WHY VISIT TENERIFE
Tenerife is an absolutely stunning island with incredible nature, gorgeous beaches, a mind-blowing volcano, and lively holiday resort towns. It’s a great place to visit whether you want a chill beach holiday or an active hiking one. While there are countless reasons to visit Tenerife, the breathtaking natural landscapes are definitely at the top of the list. Plus, with its mild climate, Tenerife is absolutely worth visiting any time of the year! Here are top 10 reasons why visit Tenerife if you need additional motivation!
WHERE TO STAY IN TENERIFE
Tenerife may be a small island, but it offers plenty of fantastic places to stay. Visitors often choose between the south and the north of the island. The south is warmer, more touristy, and pricier, while the north is cooler, more affordable, and surrounded by nature. Here are some of the best locations to consider for your stay:

We stayed in Puerto de la Cruz and absolutely loved it! It was more affordable than the south and still provided easy access to all the incredible natural attractions we wanted to explore. However, we did have a car. If you plan on visiting Tenerife without a car, Santa Cruz de Tenerife might be the best option for you, since it has the best and most frequent bus connections to the rest of the island.
HOW MANY DAYS IN TENERIFE IS ENOUGH?
The number of days you need in Tenerife depends on what you’re looking for from your holiday. If you’re just after a relaxing beach getaway in a resort, 3 to 4 days might be enough. However, if you want to explore the island (which is DEFINITELY worth doing), you’ll need more time. To explore, sightsee, and enjoy the beaches, I’d recommend at least 7 days. While the island is small, there’s so much to see, so ideally, I’d suggest 10 days. This way, you can explore Tenerife in great detail while still having plenty of time to relax on the beaches.
IF YOU HAVE 5 DAYS…
Five days should really be the minimum amount of time you set aside for Tenerife. It’s a small destination, but it offers so much to see and do, so make sure you have enough time to explore everything it has to offer.
If you’re after a relaxing beach holiday with a bit of exploration, stay in Costa Adeje or Playa de las Americas. Spend at least two days enjoying the local beaches, but also make sure to visit Masca, El Teide National Park, and Anaga Rural Park.
For a more active holiday, dedicate one day to the beach and spend the rest of your time exploring Masca, Los Gigantes, El Teide, Anaga Rural Park, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
IF YOU HAVE 7 DAYS…
If you have 7 days and love an active holiday, I’ve got the perfect itinerary for you. This 7-day Tenerife itinerary will cover everything you need to see on the island, with occasional beach breaks. Some of the highlights include Masca Valley, Punta de Teno, Anaga Rural Park, Taganana Village, Los Gigantes, Garachico, La Orotava, El Medano, and more. In case this feels too active for you, feel free to adapt the itinerary to suit your preferences, spending more time on the beach or by the pool.
IF YOU HAVE 10 DAYS…
If you have 10 days to spend on Tenerife, you’re in for an absolutely incredible trip. Ten days is the perfect amount of time if you want to fully explore the island while also enjoying a few relaxing beach days for watersports and sunbathing. I’d recommend following the 7-day itinerary mentioned above and adding a few extra days for relaxation. Since the itinerary is quite packed, the additional 3 days will give you the chance to relax on the beach or visit the amazing Siam Water Park. Both are great additions to your trip!
CONCLUSION: HOW MANY DAYS IN TENERIFE IS ENOUGH?
If you really want to experience the beauty of Tenerife, spending less than 7 days just doesn’t make sense. The island offers so much, and to see all its incredible attractions, you’ll need at least 5 days. The natural sites alone take time to explore, and you’ll also need to factor in some driving to reach all the attractions. In short, 5 days is barely enough for exploring without any beach time. If you want to enjoy the stunning beaches (which you definitely should), give yourself at least 2 more days and round up your trip to a full week. For a more relaxed holiday, I’d highly recommend booking 10 days on Tenerife!
