Looking for the best restaurants in Hvar? Here’s a list of my absolute favourites!

Hvar is one of Croatia’s most beautiful island destinations, so it attracts a lot of visitors. If you’re one of them and want to add some really great restaurants to your itinerary, this guide is for you. Hvar Town is full of amazing spots, from waterfront seafood restaurants to gems hidden in the narrow streets of the old town.

Do keep in mind that Hvar is quite pricey, so you won’t find many truly budget-friendly options. However, the quality is generally excellent, and these places are definitely worth it. Just choose what fits your preferences and budget, and make sure to reserve your table in advance!

Keep reading to discover the best restaurants in Hvar Town!

DVA RIBARA

Dva Ribara is a waterfront restaurant overlooking the Hvar harbour. It’s known for simple, tasty seafood and a really friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

This is a great spot to enjoy grilled fish, pasta, and classic Dalmatian dishes right by the sea, without anything too fancy. The portions are generous, the quality is great, and the whole experience feels very easy and welcoming.

It’s the kind of place you can come back to more than once, whether for a casual dinner or a really nice lunch by the water. It is quite pricey, but the food is some of the best you’ll have on Hvar. Make sure to book your table in advance!

DALMATINO

If you want an outstanding dinner in Hvar Town, I highly recommend Dalmatino. It’s a very popular and lively restaurant in the old town, and for a good reason.

The food is incredible, the service is exceptional, and if you’re sitting on the terrace, you’ll often hear live music from the bar next door, which adds a really nice atmosphere. The menu is a mix of traditional Dalmatian dishes and modern Mediterranean cuisine, with options like fresh seafood, steak, pasta, and risotto.

The portions are generous and everything is beautifully presented. If you like truffles, definitely try the truffle gnocchi! Both tourists and locals love this place, so it’s absolutely worth adding to your itinerary, just make sure to book your table in advance.

FIG

If you want a beautiful, trendy restaurant that still delivers amazing food, you’ll love Fig Hvar. It’s located just steps from the main square and is known for its creative, international menu with a focus on fresh and healthy dishes.

It’s also very vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free friendly, so it’s a great option if you have specific dietary preferences. The atmosphere is relaxed, fun, and a bit different from more traditional Dalmatian restaurants, which is why it’s especially popular with younger travellers.

FIG is a great spot for breakfast, brunch, or a casual dinner, and their cocktails are definitely worth trying too. Just keep in mind they don’t take reservations. It’s walk-in only, so you might have to wait a bit, but it’s absolutely worth it!

VAL MARINA

Val Marina is a restaurant with so many positive reviews that it really deserves a spot on your itinerary. It’s a modern waterfront restaurant right on the marina promenade, so the views are absolutely incredible.

The food feels like proper upscale dining, and the restaurant is elegant, but the atmosphere is still relaxed and charming, which is perfect in my opinion. The menu focuses on fresh seafood, quality meats, and locally sourced ingredients.

If you go, I’d definitely recommend trying at least one seafood and one meat dish. Overall, Val Marina is an amazing choice if you’re looking for great food, a beautiful setting, and a memorable dining experience!

MEDITERRANEO

Another absolutely incredible place I recommend is Mediterraneo Restaurant in the old town. The atmosphere here is amazing, and if you’re planning a special dinner, this is exactly where you should go.

The terrace is really romantic, and the food is just mouthwatering. The menu focuses on fresh seafood, local ingredients, and creative dishes that blend traditional and modern Dalmatian flavours. I really can’t recommend this one enough, just make sure to book a table in advance!

GRANDE LUNA

Grande Luna is a cozy, casual, family-run restaurant located in a small street just near the main square. They’re known for fresh seafood and classic Dalmatian dishes, but they also offer more international options like pasta and pizza. One of best things about this restaurant is the charming rooftop terrace, which is perfect for a relaxed evening. If you’re planning a visit, I’d definitely try to reserve a table up there. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, so it’s a great choice for a simple but high-quality dinner in Hvar Town. Book your table here!

aROMA

If you’re looking for a great dessert, aROMA Gelato is a really popular gelato spot right on the waterfront, perfect for a quick sweet break while exploring the town.

They serve handmade, natural gelato with a wide variety of flavours, including fruit sorbets and vegan options. The ice cream is on the pricier side, but it’s definitely worth it for the quality and the location alone!

CONCLUSION: BEST RESTAURANTS IN HVAR

Overall, Hvar has a fantastic food scene, from casual seaside spots to more upscale fine dining restaurants. You can enjoy fresh seafood and simple Dalmatian dishes in relaxed places like Dva Ribara or Grande Luna, or go for a more modern dining experience at FIG Hvar and Mediterraneo Restaurant.

For something more upscale, Val Marina really stands out, and Dalmatino is an unmissable option right in the old town. Honestly, you’ll probably have a hard time choosing between all these best restaurants in Hvar!

  1. Karla, we are coming this week. How’s the weather? do i need to bring overly dressy clothes or can i dress casual the whole trip?
    thank you
i love reading your blog, it’s really helped me.

    1. Hi Cassie! It’s mostly sunny with some rain, I don’t know where you’ll be visiting. Hvar is sunny (almost always)! Bring something warm for the evenings but during the day it’s quite warm. Bring dressy clothes only if you plan on going to some really fancy restaurants, otherwise you can be very casual! I’m glad the blog helped you out 🙂
