OSIJEK CHRISTMAS MARKET 2025: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you’re looking for Christmas markets in Croatia that aren’t just in Zagreb, Osijek Christmas Market could be a great choice!

Croatia loves its Christmas markets, and almost every town has one. While Zagreb’s is the most popular, there are several others worth visiting all over the country, and Osijek is definitely one of them. As a local who lived over 20 years in Osijek, I’m bringing you this guide to the Osijek Christmas Market, so keep reading!

WHERE IS OSIJEK & HOW TO REACH IT

Osijek is the biggest city in eastern Croatia, right near the borders with Hungary and Serbia. It’s one of the five largest cities in the country, with just under 100,000 residents. You can reach it easily from central Croatia, as well as from Serbia or Hungary. Most visitors come from Zagreb, which is only about 2.5 hours away by car. If you prefer public transportation, there are plenty of direct buses too, although the ride does take a bit longer.

IS OSIJEK CHRISTMAS MARKET WORTH VISITING?

Osijek Christmas Market is quite small, since the town itself isn’t that big. However, that doesn’t make it any less charming. Osijek looks beautiful during Christmas time, and the highlight of it all is the Christmas Market at the main location in Tvrdja. I wouldn’t recommend traveling only for the Christmas Market since you can see everything in about an hour, but if you’re somewhere nearby, it’s definitely worth stopping by. It’s also a great addition if you’re already planning to explore Slavonia and Baranja. In that case, the Christmas Market is just the cherry on top!

WHAT ARE THE LOCATIONS OF OSIJEK CHRISTMAS MARKET

Osijek Christmas Market doesn’t have too many locations, but these are the ones you need to check out:

TRG SV. TROJSTVA (TVRDJA)

This is the main Christmas Market location. It’s a square in the heart of Osijek’s Old Town, and it’s incredibly charming. You’ll find lots of beautiful Christmas lights, decorations, and plenty of cute Christmas photo spots. You can use them for some lovely pictures. This is also where all the Christmas market stalls are. You can find anything here, from unique, handmade jewelry, mugs, and other local products, to the always-popular food and drink stalls. There’s also a stage on the square where local musicians perform throughout the season, making the atmosphere even more festive.

PARK KRALJA DRZISLAVA

This park is reserved for a Christmas-themed lunapark, so it’s mostly aimed at the younger crowd. There are several fun games and rides you can try, and the main attraction is the big ferris wheel. It takes you up for a beautiful view of the entire Old Town. The ticket costs €7 per person, and it’s even cheaper for children, so it’s a fun little activity whether you’re visiting alone, with a partner, or with the whole family!

ICE SKATING RINK

Only a few minutes from the lunapark you’ll find Osijek’s ice skating rink, where you can go ice skating during the holiday season. The rink usually works from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. The entrance ticket and skate rental together are 7€, which is really affordable, and it’s such a fun way to make some great Christmas memories. For more info, check out their Instagram!

TRG ANTE STARCEVICA

Ante Starcevic Square is the main square in Osijek. Some years it’s the central location for the Christmas Market, but not this year. This time, it doesn’t offer anything particularly special, but you’ll still find a gorgeous Christmas tree next to the Osijek Cathedral. Right on the square is also the tram station for the Christmas Tram, which is a great activity for children.

The tram takes you from the square through the town, all the way to Tvrdja and back. It’s not expensive, so definitely check it out. Also make sure you enjoy the Christmas lights on Europska Avenija, so I’d recommend walking from Tvrdja to Trg Ante Starcevica once you’re done exploring the main Christmas Market locations.

PRICES OF FOOD AND DRINKS AT OSIJEK CHRISTMAS MARKET

Osijek’s Christmas Market definitely isn’t as expensive as Zagreb’s, but you can still expect slightly higher prices than what you’d normally pay in shops or bars. Here are this year’s food and drink prices: mulled wine €3–3.5, tea €2.5, gin €4.5, sausages €5–8, burgers from €8, and pancakes from €4.

WHAT ELSE TO DO AND SEE IN OSIJEK

If you’re here for longer or just want to explore Osijek in more detail, here’s a guide on how to spend the best one day in Osijek. Make sure you walk along the promenade and see the Osijek Bridge, and don’t forget to explore Tvrdja beyond the festive Sv. Trojstva Square!

CONCLUSION: OSIJEK CHRISTMAS MARKET

Osijek Christmas Market may be small, but it’s cozy, festive, and full of local charm. If you’re already in eastern Croatia or exploring Slavonia and Baranja, it’s definitely worth stopping by for an evening of good food, pretty lights, and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. Just don’t expect a big Zagreb-style market. Come for the warmth, the vibe, and the uniquely Osijek Christmas spirit, and you’ll really enjoy it!

  1. Wow this was a great read! Seeing the Christmas markets in Europe has always been high on my bucketlist, but I don’t hear much about the ones in Croatia! Park Kralja Drzislava looks super cool too, I love ferris wheels! Thanks for the suggestion!
