It’s a really relaxing and beautiful nature escape in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We often visit Bosnia from Croatia, and Kravica Waterfall is one of our favourite stops. WHERE IS KRAVICA WATERFALL?

Kravica Waterfall is located in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina, near the town of Ljubuški in the Herzegovina region. It’s about 40 kilometers from Mostar and only around 10 kilometers from Ljubuški. The whole area is shaped by karst landscapes, so you’ll see lots of sinkholes, springs, and caves around. It’s a stunning example of the kind of natural beauty the Balkans are known for.

HOW TO REACH KRAVICA WATERFALL FROM DUBROVNIK

There are a few ways to get to Kravica Waterfall from Dubrovnik, and some are easier than others. If you can, I definitely recommend going by car, but here are all the options to consider!

By car

The easiest and most enjoyable way to get to Kravica Waterfall is definitely by car. You can take the route over the Pelješac Bridge and through Metković toward Ljubuški, where you’ll find the gorgeous waterfall. The drive is about 130 km and takes roughly 2.5 hours. Roads are generally in good condition, although signage in rural areas can be limited, so be sure to have Google or Apple Maps turned on. Since you’ll be crossing the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina, don’t forget your passport and check if you need a visa. Once you arrive, there’s plenty of parking available. It only costs 3 euros for the whole day, which is super affordable!

By organised tour

If you don’t have a car, joining a tour is probably the best way to visit Kravica Waterfall. A lot of travel agencies in Dubrovnik offer full-day or half-day trips, and they make everything super easy. You just show up and enjoy the beautiful views while they handle all the logistics. Most tours start at around 30 euros and go up depending on how private or fancy they are. They often include other cool stops too, like Mostar, Pocitelj, or Blagaj. Honestly, it’s way easier to cross the border on an organised tour than to figure it out on your own by bus!

By bus

The last option, which is technically possible but not something I’d recommend for a day trip, is taking the bus. The main issue is that it takes way too long and just isn’t worth the hassle. There’s no direct bus from Dubrovnik to Kravica Waterfall, so you’d have to first get to Mostar, then catch another bus to either Ljubuski or Medugorje, and from there take a taxi to the waterfall. As you can probably guess, this isn’t exactly the smoothest or quickest option. Honestly, for the same price or even less, you can just book a tour and get there much faster and more comfortably.

IS IT WORTH VISITING KRAVICA WATERFALL FROM DUBROVNIK

Visiting Kravica Waterfall from Dubrovnik is definitely worth it, but it really depends on what kind of day trip you’re after. If you want a nature-filled escape away from the crowds along the Croatian coast, this is a perfect choice. However, if you’re mainly looking to swim in the sea, it might not be the best option since the waterfall experience is different. But if you’re someone who’s missed swimming at Krka National Park, you’ll love Kravica, it’s pretty similar and just as refreshing!

On top of that, the scenery is stunning. Kravica is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Balkans and it’s far less touristy than places like Plitvice or Krka in Croatia. It’s also more affordable. Plus, you can easily combine a visit to Kravica with other spots in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a fuller trip!

KRAVICA WATERFALL TICKETS

Tickets for this beautiful spot are easy to get. You can buy them online or just at the entrance since it’s usually not too crowded. We bought ours right there at the ticket booth. Tickets cost 10 euros per person and 5 euros for children. Plus, your ticket also gives you access to nearby attractions like Koćuša Waterfall and the Franciscan Museum in Humac.

CAN YOU SWIM AT KRAVICA WATERFALL?

Yes, you can definitely swim at Kravica Waterfall! In fact, that’s one of the main reasons people visit. Swimming is allowed in the natural pool at the base of the waterfall and it’s super popular, especially in summer. There are floating barriers that mark the swimming areas and keep you away from the stronger currents near the falls, so just stay inside those. The water usually stays between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius (59 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit), even in summer, since it’s from the mountain springs. It’s colder than the Adriatic Sea, but perfect if you want a refreshing swim. Also, bring water shoes because the rocks in the pool can be sharp and slippery.

SWIM IN THE NATURAL POOL

Swimming is one of the most popular activities at Kravica Waterfall, so if you enjoy swimming in beautiful natural spots, don’t miss out. The water comes from a mountain spring, so it can be quite cold, but it’s perfect for a refreshing dip. Just make sure to bring water shoes. After a swim, rent a chair for 5 euros and a parasol for 3, and enjoy your afternoon!

ENJOY BARS AND RESTAURANTS

There are several fun bars and restaurants all around the waterfall. They all offer incredible views, and the prices are really reasonable for a spot like this. Whether you’re in the mood for a coffee with a direct view of the waterfall or a meal in the shade, you can spend the whole day eating and drinking while enjoying mind-blowing scenery.

WALK THE TRAIL AROUND THE WATERFALLS

You can also explore a nice walking trail that circles around Kravica Waterfall. It’s a peaceful and easy route, about 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) long, and takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes to complete at a leisurely pace. It’s perfect for enjoying the views from different spots around the waterfall.

CONCLUSION: KRAVICA WATERFALL FROM DUBROVNIK

I think this is an absolutely incredible day trip from Dubrovnik or even better, a 2-day trip if you combine it with Mostar. While I’m always a bit more partial to the sea and swimming in the Adriatic, Kravica Waterfall is such a unique experience and I’d highly recommend it. It’s also very affordable, and if you have a car, it’s one of the easiest cross-border day trips you can do from Croatia!
