We are travelling to Dubrovnik for a week in August. Any recommendations of things to do, beaches to visit and places to eat and drink? Also what to avoid would be helpful!! We are staying in the old town.

Thanks

City walls.

Lokrum is a must. Take beach stuff with you, and snacks. Can easily kill a day there if you're leisurely.

1 week is a long time in Dubrovnik alone, I'd plan some other day trips.

Bokar Dubrovnik was our favourite restaurant in old town.

I went last week.

I thought 2 full days were more than enough for the city. Consider taking a ferry and stay at other places in your week.

I did 2 days D, 2 days Hvar, 3 days Split.

Other than that you could take a ferry for day trips around the island of Croatia. Hvar and Brac take +- 1.5 hours from Dubrovnik.

As far as the city goes:

Hit the city walls early, they open at 9am. Gets very hot and crowded later.

Visit Lokrum island for loads of beaches, wildlife and overall nature. Its an island 15-20m by boat.

Buzu bar in the city for a nice midday drink and swim.

Overall i found Dubrovnik very touristic. Be prepared.

There are plenty of things worthy of doing in Dubrovnik! I really love the Elaphiti Islands, Lopud especially. I would also recommend getting on a sunset cruise because those are really magical in Dubrovnik. Here's 16 best things to do in Dubrovnik, and all of them are excellent!

Heyy, i went 10 days ago so if you’re staying in Dubrovnik and want to spend a day in nature, consider crossing into Bosnia. I went canyoning in the Hrcavka river, inside Sutjeska National Park, around a 2-2.5 hour drive from Dubrovnik.

It’s a mix of hiking, swimming, and moving through a wild canyon with small waterfalls and natural pools. A bit of climbing and jumping, but nothing too intensse.

The tour was run by Mountain camp Outdoor Tara, and the guides, Branko and Davor (also the owners), spoke near-perfect English and made everyone feel comfortable and safe. The group was small, and they took some great photos and short videos during the trip.

And i almost forgot to mention that it’s not commercialized like rafting on the Tara River, which I really appreciated.

If you’re looking for something quieter and more natural than the usual tourist spots, it’s well worth checking out.

I was in Dubrovnik this past April and also stayed near the Old Town! Would recommend Konoba Dubrava- an authentic Croatian restaurant that uses an iron bell to cook their meat- very cool. The location is up the hill (hard to walk) so I'd call an uber to the restaurant because it was significantly cheaper than a taxi (by almost $30). It was amazing- highly recommend.
