My wife and I will be visiting Croatia in mid-June, meeting up with our kid who will be studying in Split. Will likely be there for 7 days but could add a day or two if needed. We like to have a base while we explore, rather than hopping from one hotel to the next each night. So thinking we use Split as a base, with day trips to Dubrovnik & Mostar, and an overnight to Hvar. Also wondering about how realistic a visit to Sarajevo would be (either day trip or overnight).

Does this sound realistic? Are we leaving out must-see things? Is Split a good base, or should we establish a base elsewhere? We have not been to Croatia before so unsure what we might be missing.

Hey, check out these two example itineraries, and overall your rough plan sounds good only thing I would remove Sarajevo, its too much away in distance to make it make sense. Better to explore additional island. Either way check the guides below and for a data base of all popular questions check here : Croatia Travel Tips FAQ

If you will be renting a car and driving towards Dubrovnik you can easily do Mostar:
