My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Croatia in June and would appreciate some advice to enhance our itinerary. Our current plan includes:
-
Split: 2.5 days
-
Hvar: 2.5 days
-
Dubrovnik: 2.5 days
Our interests are exploring cities, savoring great food, and enjoying time in the sun. We're open to adjusting our schedule for the most convenient and enriching experience.
Questions:
-
Day Trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park: Considering it's about a 5-6 hour drive from Split, would a day trip be worthwhile, or should we allocate more time to explore Split?
-
Hvar Activities: We plan to take a speedboat day trip to the Blue Cave and nearby islands. Are there specific tours or islands you recommend?
-
Dubrovnik Accommodation: Is it advisable to stay within the Old Town, or are there better options nearby?
Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Hey, yeah so driving to Plitvice Lakes and back, for a 6 day Croatia trip would most probably be a waste as walking the park will take you about 4 hours, check out this guide ( Plitvice Lakes Guide by a Local (Which entrance, trail to choose, prices etc.)) . So you would need to waste a whole day and half to get to see Plitvice, this depends on how much you want to drive around, you have another option, Krka National Park which also has water falls and is worthwhile seeing and is much close to Split: KRKA National Park - Guide (Great National Park to visit if you are in Split, Sibenik, Zadar, Trogir)
If you decide to stick to your original itinerary I would suggest checking out his guide as I would spend 1.5 day in Split and add 1 day towards your travels to Dubrovnik as visiting Korcula island is worth it. Korcula guide, an island not to miss in Croatia
So Split 1.5
Hvar 2.5
Korcula 1 or 0.5
Dubrovnik 2.5

Hvar Activities: We plan to take a speedboat day trip to the Blue Cave and nearby islands. Are there specific tours or islands you recommend? This is a great idea, I would suggest either visiting Vis if you want to explore a small island with not so many tourists or Bol (Brac) as it has one of the most famous beaches in Croatia: Best Beaches to Visit in Croatia

Dubrovnik Accommodation: Is it advisable to stay within the Old Town, or are there better options nearby? So check out this guides for locations on where to stay in Dubrovnik: Where to stay when visiting Dubrovnik (8 Amazing areas) or Cavtat Guide ( a great place to stay near Dubrovnik) but since its May I would advise staying closer to the action so somewhere near the city, for that check out the first guide.

While your in Dubrovnik these are some things you can do: 16 Best Things to do in Dubrovnik, Croatia 2025 and for Split: 16 Best Things to do in Split, Croatia 2025
Also since you are in Split for either 2.5 days or 1.5 as suggested you wont have much to do for 1 day, as you can sightsee Split in 2 hours I would advise checking out cities which are about 1 hour away and really worthwhile seeing like Trogir or Sibenik or Omis.
