Taking a day trip from Split to Trogir? These are the things to see in Trogir in a day!

If you’re staying in Split and looking for a great day trip, Trogir is one of the best and closest options. It’s a small, charming town that feels much more relaxed than Split, which is exactly why it’s one of my favourite day trips from the city. Honestly, I often prefer spending time in Trogir over the crowds in Split.

WHERE IS TROGIR

Trogir is a beautiful historic town located on the Adriatic coast, just west of Split. It’s known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just like many stunning Croatian towns, Trogir’s also has an old town full of narrow cobblestone streets, ancient churches, and charming squares.

HOW TO REACH TROGIR FROM SPLIT

Trogir is really close to Split, so reaching it won’t be a problem. There are several ways to reach Trogir from Split, depending on your preferences, but here are the most common ways:

BY BUS

The most common and affordable option is to take a bus from Split to Trogir. Buses run regularly throughout the day, and the journey usually takes around 30 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.

You can either catch a direct bus from the Split Bus Station to Trogir (30-minute drive) or you can catch a public transportation bus no. 37 which is very cheap but takes around an hour with many bus stops on the way.

BY TAXI OR UBER

If you don’t have a car but want to skip the bus, you can take a taxi or ride-sharing service like Uber or Bolt. This way you’ll be more comfortable and flexible, but this option will be more expensive than taking a bus. Usually, the Uber prices for this journey range from 25-35 euros per ride.

BY CAR

If you have a car, driving to Trogir is very easy. The journey is short and the route is well signposted. There’s plenty of parking near Trogir Old Town, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding a spot, but keep in mind that it’s quite pricey and usually requires cash.

We always go by car since we travel around Croatia that way, and it’s the most convenient option for us. I’d definitely recommend renting a car as well if you’re visiting Croatia and want more flexibility.

IS ONE DAY ENOUGH FOR TROGIR?

Many people question if one day will be enough to explore Trogir in full. Trogir is a small town so one day is totally enough to fully appreciate its beauty and explore its attractions at a leisurely pace. If you’re in a hurry you can even see it in half a day.

Trogir’s old town is relatively compact, so it’s possible to see the main attractions in a day. What you won’t have time for if you’re there for a day is going to the beach and exploring the surrounding area.

IS TROGIR WORTH VISITING?

If you’re thinking that Trogir might not be worth a visit, you’re wrong. Trogir is definitely worth visiting, especially if you enjoy exploring historic towns with stunning architecture and a rich cultural heritage.

Trogir’s well-preserved medieval old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it’s absolutely worth visiting. Along with that, Trogir has a charming and relaxing atmosphere, with a lively waterfront, picturesque squares, and inviting cafes and restaurants.

Trogir is perfect for anyone who likes calmer and more charming towns, so it’s absolutely worth visiting if you’re coming from Split.

THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN TROGIR

If you’re visiting Trogir, here are some of the top things to see and do in this charming town. You can easily cover them in a day, or spread them out over a few days for a more relaxed visit.

EXPLORE THE OLD TOWN

One thing you will definitely do is explore the old town of Trogir. You should wander through the narrow cobblestone streets of Trogir’s old town, and admire the incredible landmarks like the Cathedral of St. Lawrence, Church of St. Dominic, the Duke’s Palace, and the Clock Tower.

You can also sit in one of many old town cafes and restaurants and have a drink or some food. Enjoying some food and drinks in the old town will be a memory you won’t forget!

CLIMB THE CATHEDRAL’S BELL TOWER

It wouldn’t be a Croatian old town without a gorgeous bell tower to climb. For panoramic views of Trogir and the surrounding area, you should climb the bell tower of the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. The ascent is a bit steep, but the views from the top are worth it. The entrance fee is 4 euros and you can climb it every day except Sunday!

VISIT THE KARMELENGO FORTRESS

You need to explore this impressive medieval fortress, which dates back to the 15th century. You can climb the walls and the tower for more stunning views of Trogir and the Adriatic Sea.

The entrance fee is 5 euros, which is more than okay for what you get to see! During the summer, the fortress becomes an open stage so if you’re visiting during summer you can enjoy concerts, plays and festivals.

STROLL ALONG THE WATERFRONT

One of the most charming things you can do is to take a leisurely stroll along Trogir’s picturesque waterfront promenade. The promenade is lined with cafes, restaurants, and souvenir shops so you can grab a drink, some lunch, or a souvenir.

RELAX ON THE BEACH

If you’re one of those relaxed visitors, you might take a quick stroll through the town and just go to the beach. Trogir has several beautiful beaches where you can relax and soak up the sun, with some of the most popular being Pantan Beach, Okrug Beach, and Medena Beach.

TAKE A BOAT TRIP

Taking a boat tour from Trogir is a fantastic way to explore the stunning coastline and nearby islands of Croatia. There are several options for you to choose from, from the popular Blue Cave, Hvar and Pakleni Islands Tour, to the closer Blue Lagoon, Solta, Drvenik Tours.

ENJOY A DELICIOUS LUNCH

If you’re a foodie, you must indulge in delicious Croatian cuisine at one of Trogir’s many restaurants and taverns. You can try many local specialties like seafood risotto, grilled fish, and Dalmatian prosciutto. I’d highly recommend booking a table at Il Ponte. It surely won’t disappoint!

MY PERSONAL TAKE ON VISITING TROGIR FROM SPLIT

Trogir is absolutely worth visiting and is one of the best day trips you can take from Split. I love its charming, relaxed atmosphere, especially during the shoulder season. While it does get busier in peak summer, it’s still much easier to handle than Split. Trogir will always get a big recommendation from me!

CONCLUSION: TROGIR FROM SPLIT DAY TRIP

If you can only do one or two day trips from Split, I’d highly recommend visiting Trogir. It’s perfect if you want to escape the crowds of Split’s busy Old Town, while still enjoying a charming town that’s a great representation of the Croatian coast!
