I’ve visited the Harry Potter Studios twice now, once in late 2023 and once in 2025. Both times, we organized our own transportation but I know that not everyone wants to do it that way. We never had any issues, and this guide includes everything you need to plan a stress-free visit to the Harry Potter Studios, from how to book a tour to how to get there by yourself. WHERE ARE THE HARRY POTTER STUDIOS
The Harry Potter Studios, officially known as the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, are not actually located in London. They are in Leavesden, about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of central London. While it’s not very far, you still need to plan it as a day trip from London.
The nearest town to the studios is Watford, and the closest train station is Watford Junction. This station is the main transport hub for visitors coming from London. From there, free shuttle buses take you directly to the studios. This means that if you’re traveling by public transport, all you need to do is get to Watford Junction, and the rest is taken care of.
HOW TO GET FROM LONDON TO HARRY POTTER STUDIOS
LONDON TO HARRY POTTER STUDIOS BY TRAIN
Traveling from London to Harry Potter Studios by train is the easiest and most popular option. This is the option we always choose, since everything else either takes longer or is more expensive.
You’ll need to take a train from London Euston to Watford Junction. Trains run very frequently, almost every 15 minutes, but make sure to choose the fast services. These take around 15 to 20 minutes, while slower trains can take much longer. A round-trip train ticket usually costs around €35 per person. You can book tickets in advance online or buy them at the station. We usually book through Trainline because it’s quick and easy, and you get your tickets on your phone within seconds.
Once you arrive at Watford Junction, exit the station and you’ll immediately see the official Warner Bros. Studio Tour shuttle bus. It departs every 15 to 20 minutes and takes about 15 minutes to reach the studios. You just need to show your Harry Potter Studios ticket to board the shuttle.
Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the station if you prefer a faster or more private transfer. That said, I’d recommend using the shuttle. It’s Harry Potter themed, includes a short video message from the cast, and really gets you into the wizarding mood. Plus, it’s free. Overall, this is the option I’ll always choose since it’s easy, comfortable, and fast.
LONDON TO HARRY POTTER STUDIOS BY BUS
Traveling from London to Harry Potter Studios by local or public bus is possible, but it’s much slower and less direct than going by train. There is no single bus that runs all the way from central London to the studios, so this option usually involves several transfers. I’d only recommend it if you’re on a very tight budget and can’t afford the €35 train ticket, or if you’re already staying outside of central London and this route works better for you.
One option is to take the bus 113 from central London, for example from Trafalgar Square, to Edgware Station. From there, you take bus 142, which goes to Watford Junction. Once you arrive, you can walk to Watford Junction Station and catch the free studio shuttle. This entire trip costs around £2 (2,20€) per person, which is much cheaper than the train, but it takes about 2 hours. If you choose this option, make sure you leave early so you don’t miss your time slot at the studios.
Another option is to take the Tube to Heathrow Airport and then catch a RailAir Coach to Watford Junction Station. This is a less complicated route, but it’s not much cheaper than taking the train, so it’s usually only worth it if you’re staying near Heathrow.
While buses are cheaper than the train, they run less frequently and take significantly longer. Because of that, I wouldn’t recommend this option unless saving money is your top priority.
LONDON TO HARRY POTTER STUDIOS BY CAR
Driving from London to Harry Potter Studios is the most flexible and convenient option, especially if you’re traveling in a group. However, it’s definitely not the fastest. The drive from central London usually takes between 45 and 90 minutes, depending on traffic. Because of that, the train is often quicker, especially if you’re staying close to Euston Station.
Parking at the Harry Potter Studios is free for ticket holders, so that’s one less thing to worry about. That said, if you’re traveling during weekday rush hours or on weekends, your travel time can increase significantly. Keep this in mind so you don’t arrive late for your time slot. If you plan to drive, try to book a visit outside of peak traffic hours, preferably on a weekday, and arrive early on the day of your visit.
LONDON TO HARRY POTTER STUDIOS BY TOUR
The easiest, or at least the most stress-free option, is to book a tour. These tours usually include your studio ticket and round-trip transportation from central London. Pick-up points are often in areas like Victoria, King’s Cross, or Baker Street. You’ll travel by a comfortable coach or bus, and the journey takes around 60 to 90 minutes each way.
That said, even a tour is not quicker than taking the train. The main advantage is that you don’t have to worry about navigating trains, buses, or parking. Everything is fully organised for you, and all you need to do is show up. Keep in mind, though, that because of this convenience, tours are usually more expensive than other transportation options. They’re also not very flexible, since you’ll arrive and leave at set times. Still, they’re a great choice for first-time visitors or anyone who doesn’t want to deal with public transportation.
OTHER TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS
In addition to trains, buses, driving, and organised tours, there are a few other ways to travel from London to Harry Potter Studios.
Taxis and ride-share services like Uber offer a direct, door-to-door option from anywhere in London. While this is the most convenient choice, it’s also the most expensive. That said, if you’re traveling in a group and can split the cost, it may not be that bad. For example, a round trip from central London to the Harry Potter Studios by Uber can cost around €150. In comparison, a round-trip train ticket for four people would be about €130. If you value flexibility and convenience, adding those extra €20 might be worth it.
If you’re staying outside of central London, closer to the studios, combining the Tube with a taxi or Uber can also be a convenient and practical option.
WHEN TO BOOK TICKETS FOR HARRY POTTER STUDIOS
You should book your Harry Potter Studios tickets as early as possible, especially if you’re visiting during peak travel periods. The Warner Bros. Studio Tour uses timed entry slots, and popular dates like school holidays, weekends, the summer months, and the Christmas season often sell out weeks or even months in advance. For example, we visited once in December and once in July, and both times we booked about four months ahead. When we visited in July, even booking four months in advance wasn’t enough to get our preferred date and time, so we had to adjust our itinerary.
If you’re traveling during quieter periods, such as weekdays outside of school holidays, you might find better availability closer to your visit date. Still, I’d recommend booking as soon as you have your flights confirmed.
Even though it can be quite busy, I highly recommend visiting in December for the Hogwarts in the Snow tour. It’s absolutely magical to see the sets decorated for Christmas. I’d also recommend visiting during an anniversary event for one of the films. We visited during the Goblet of Fire anniversary, and it was an amazing experience.
WHAT TO PACK FOR HARRY POTTER STUDIOS
The Harry Potter Studios are an easy and comfortable day trip, so you don’t need to pack anything too special. However, there are a few things worth keeping in mind.
Wear comfortable walking shoes, since you’ll spend at least 3 to 4 hours walking around the sets. Dress in layers, especially if you’re visiting outside of summer, as temperatures can vary between indoor exhibits and outdoor sections. Jackets are left in the cloakroom, so if you’re visiting in December, wear something warm enough for the outdoor areas but easy to take off once you’re inside.
Make sure you have your tickets saved on your phone, and bring a power bank, since you’ll be taking lots of photos and videos. Bring a small backpack, as bags are checked at the entrance, and larger bags may need to be left in the cloakroom. You can also bring reusable bags if you plan on shopping in the studio stores.
You’re allowed to bring snacks and water, although there are several places inside the studios where you can buy food and drinks, so it’s not essential.

A visit from London to the Harry Potter Studios will absolutely be one of the highlights of your London trip if you’re a Harry Potter fan. The studios are incredible and truly worth every penny. Getting there from London is not difficult at all, so it’s easy to plan even if you’re visiting for the first time. I’d recommend the train. However, if you want the most stress-free option, simply book a tour and enjoy the experience.
