Each year, Croatia attracts more and more tourists due to its incredible sea and coastline. Today, Croatia is far from the unexplored and under-visited country it once was. So, is it still worth visiting in 2026? As a Croatian local who has been visiting the Croatian coast for years, in this blog post I will tell you if Croatia is worth visiting and why you should visit it!.

IS CROATIA WORTH VISITING?

I may be biased since I’m Croatian, but there’s no place I’d rather spend my summers than Croatia. While there are many gorgeous countries in Europe and around the world, the summer vibes in Croatia are just incredible and unmatched. Whether you’re sunbathing on the beach, exploring the old towns, or island hopping, you’ll have a marvelous time. I couldn’t recommend Croatia more, but here are some of my favorite reasons why you MUST visit Croatia at least once in your life.

You get to enjoy the breathtaking coastline

If there’s one thing in Croatia that will leave you speechless, it’s the stunning coastline. It’ll be hard to choose which is the most beautiful – the Adriatic Sea, the picturesque islands, or the charming coastal towns. You have to check out the small towns, popular tourist spots, and some secluded islands to really experience this incredible coastline. The crystal-clear waters will sweep you off your feet and make you want to return year after year!

You can learn all about the historic cities of Croatia

The Croatian coast is famous for some of the most beautiful historic cities in Europe. The obvious ones are Dubrovnik and Split with their UNESCO World Heritage Sites. However, towns like Rovinj, Šibenik, and Zadar also offer stunning historic sites, charming old towns, and breathtaking sea views. You must check out landmarks like the City Walls of Dubrovnik, Diocletian’s Palace in Split, the City Walls in Ston, and the Cathedral in Šibenik, just to name a few.

If there’s one thing Croatia is famous for, besides its gorgeous coastline, it’s the national parks. Croatia is home to eight national parks, and while you can’t visit them all, try to see at least two. The most popular are Plitvice Lakes and Krka National Parks. Both are famous for their cascading waterfalls, stunning lakes, and green landscapes. I’d also highly recommend visiting Brijuni National Park in Istria and Mljet National Park near Dubrovnik. Both are beautiful islands, full of nature, wildlife, and crystal-clear sea.

Many people visit Croatia just for the beaches. While Croatia has sandy, rocky, and pebbly beaches, the pebbly ones are by far the most common. The sea is incredibly crystal-clear, and once you experience swimming in the Adriatic, you won’t want to leave. Here’s a list of some of Croatia’s best beaches, but I’d highly recommend checking out the beaches along the Makarska Riviera and on the islands. The most popular ones being Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Dugi Otok, and Lopud.

Croatia is a great road trip destination

If you enjoy road tripping, Croatia is the perfect destination for you. You should explore the Croatian coastline by car. The car allows you to stop whenever you want and discover smaller towns and hidden beaches. It also makes it easier to reach inland destinations like Plitvice Lakes NP. For a stunning coastal drive, check out the Jadranska Magistrala road, which offers some of the best views in Croatia. People usually use Split or Dubrovnik as a base and explore the islands from there. If you’re staying in Split, the best islands you can visit are Hvar, Brac, and Vis, while in Dubrovnik the best options are Mljet, Korcula, and Lopud.

You can experience many outdoor activities

Croatia is full of awesome outdoor activities, so if you love being active, you’re in for a treat. Water sports are super popular here, thanks to the beautiful Adriatic Sea. You can try kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, or even jetskiing. If you’re not into water, you can go hiking, ziplining, rafting, cycling, and plenty more!

You can explore Croatian hidden gems

While Croatia has its popular cities that attract thousands of visitors, there are still plenty of small hidden gems with far fewer tourists. These towns are especially charming because you can enjoy them mostly on your own, even during the busy summer months. Here’s a list of 10 of the most charming small towns in Croatia, but I highly recommend checking out Grožnjan, Motovun, Omiš, Ston, and Cavtat.

Croatia is extremely safe

If safety is a top priority for you, Croatia is the perfect choice. It’s considered one of the safest countries for tourists and consistently ranks as one of the safest destinations in Europe. Violent crime is rare, and petty crimes like pickpocketing are uncommon compared to other European hotspots. Still, it’s always a good idea to stay cautious.

Solo travelers, including women, will feel safe here, whether exploring cities or natural attractions. The roads are well-maintained and safe, so you won’t have any trouble driving. And if you need help, the friendly locals will always help you out. With all this, you don’t have to wonder is Croatia worth visiting!

MY PERSONAL TAKE – IS CROATIA WORTH VISITING?

Croatia is absolutely worth visiting. I know that as a local I may be a bit biased, but you know how people often say they stop noticing how beautiful their country is because they see it every day? That has never happened to me. Every time I visit the coast, national parks, or old towns, I’m still genuinely amazed by how beautiful everything is, even though I’ve seen it a million times.

Croatia is talked about more and more, so it might sound overhyped, but it truly isn’t. While it is becoming more expensive, you’ll still have an incredible time and create memories you’ll never forget.

Yes, yes, and YES! Croatia is absolutely lovely, especially if you love the sea, swimming, and beach activities.
