WHY GO ISLAND HOPPING FROM SPLIT?

Croatian islands are some of the best destinations with the clearest sea and most wonderful beaches you could visit. The amazing thing is, many of them are close to Split, or have direct ferry connections from Split, so you can visit them much more easily than from some other locations in Croatia. If you’re staying in Split, you should definitely use this opportunity to see as many of Croatian islands as you can.

ISLAND HOPPING FROM SPLIT: ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND ADVICE/TIPS

If you want to go island hopping from Split, these are the operators which offer routes between Split and other islands: Jadrolinija and Krilo – Kapetan Luka. If you’re searching for tickets, check their websites first.

You can buy the tickets online on their websites or at the ferry terminals in Split. I would highly recommend buying tickets a few days in advance online, just so you’re sure you’ve got yours. During peak season there are huge crowds on catamarans and ferries, especially those for Hvar and Bol. Make it easier for yourself and buy in advance!

Finally, for each day trip pack light and smart. You’ll need essentials like sunscreen, swimwear, and comfortable shoes for exploring. Bring water with you, although you’ll have the option of buying drinks on the ferry. If you’re on a budget, bring some food or snacks because the islands are quite expensive.

ISLAND HOPPING FROM SPLIT – BEST ISLANDS

HVAR

Hvar is the most popular island in Croatia and the one you really must visit. It’s got a stunning old town, gorgeous beaches, and several smaller islands near which you can visit for a more relaxed kind of vibe. Hvar, however, is a pretty lively island with loads of things to do, and here are a few of them.

There are a few main attractions you really must visit. One of them is Hvar Town, which has a stunning Old Town worthy of a visit. The must-visit attraction in the Old Town is the St. Stephen’s Cathedral. If you’re there for the sunset, you’ll see the prettiest one from Fortica Fortress, and if you like small, untouched islands definitely visit the Pakleni Islands.

You can reach Hvar easily from Split by a direct catamaran. The trip usually takes around 1 hour and it’s 25 euros per person one way. The catamarans are quick, comfortable and air-conditioned, so the ride will be a piece of cake.

BRAČ

Brač is another popular Croatian island, and it’s very loved by beach-goers. This stunning island is home to Croatia’s most famous and often named most beautiful beach Zlatni Rat. This lovely beach is found in Bol, and it’s well-known for its shape which changes according to the wind.

If you’re not much of a beach-goer, there are several cute and quaint villages on the island you can visit. While Bol is the most popular one, Milna and Supetar are also lovely to see and enjoy.

Brač is another island you can easily reach from Split by catamaran. The catamaran from Split goes straight to Bol, and it costs around 20 euros per person (one way). It’s a bit under 1 hour journey and it’s a perfect day trip from Split!

VIS

Vis is less popular than Brač and Hvar, but it’s also got more untouched nature because of that. If you want to enjoy stunning nature and beaches with less crowds, Vis is the perfect island for island hopping from Split.

Some of the highlights on Vis are definitely Stiniva Beach, which is one of the prettiest beaches in Croatia. Moreover, there are several other secluded beaches, as well as many charming towns or the island, such as Vis Town and Komiža.

If you’re a Mamma Mia! fan, you can also visit several locations where the second movie was filmed, right there on Vis!

You can reach Vis from Split by a catamaran in 1.5 hours for around 10 euros, so not only is it a calmer and more relaxing destination than Bol or Hvar, it’s also much cheaper!

BIŠEVO

Biševo is a small island near Vis, which is famous for its Blue Cave everyone wants to visit. This island is really far from the mainland so the crowds are non-existent, and you can truly enjoy the sandy beaches, hidden coves, and crystal-clear sea this island offers.

The Blue Cave is one of the most popular attractions in Croatia due to its gorgeous light blue light you can see once you enter the cave.

To see this phenomenon, you can either book a guided tour from Split, or you can reach the island by yourself from Vis (for around 5 euros) and then book a tour on the island. In any case, you cannot access it by yourself because you need to enter the cave in a small boat.

KORČULA

The last island perfect for island hopping from Split is Korčula. Korčula is one of the most magical islands in Croatia, and I would highly recommend everyone visit it at least for a day.

This beautiful island is rich history in history, and it’s known for its picturesque old town. The Old Town of Korcula is one of the prettiest old towns in Croatia and it’s often called “little Dubrovnik” due to it being perfectly preserved. It also houses the alleged birth house of the famous explorer Marco Polo.

You can also venture out of Korcula Town and visit Lumbarda or Vela Luka, where you’ll find stunning beaches, gorgeous sea, and incredible food and wine.

You can reach Korčula from Split in around 2.5 hours by catamaran. The ride is comfortable, so the 2.5 hours won’t be tiresome. The ticket costs 30 euros per person (one way). Korcula is one of the prettiest islands in Croatia, so unless you’re planning on visiting it for longer, please take this day trip from Split!
