BIKE IN MIAMI: WHY GO ON A BIKE TOUR AROUND MIAMI
One of the best activities we’ve done in Miami was a self-guided bike tour. Miami is a beautiful city perfect for incredible bike rides, and if you like being active this is a great way to see the city.
You can either do a Miami bike tour in a guided group, or you can just rent a bike and make your own tour. Both will be an amazing way to explore Miami Beach and Miami in general.

RENT A BIKE IN MIAMI SOUTH BEACH
We stayed at South Beach Miami and there is an abundance of options when it comes to renting a bike. Here are a few of those options, so choose the best one for you, depending on the prices and location.
Citi Bike Miami
Citi Bike Miami was the option we opted for. It’s a bike-sharing program with stations throughout Miami and Miami Beach. We chose Citi Bike Miami because it’s really easy to use and you can leave it basically anywhere in the city.
To access a bike, you can either pay for it through their app, or if you don’t have their app or internet in general, you can pay for it at any bike station with a credit card.
Here are the prices for hourly renting:
- 30-minute access pass – $5.75
- 1 hour access pass – $7.95
- 2 hour access pass – $10.95
- 4 hour access pass – $18.00
- 1 day access pass- $24.00
Overall, while it’s a bit pricey, we had a good experience with Citi Bike and I would recommend them.

Bike and Roll Miami
Bike and Roll Miami is one of the most popular rental companies on South Beach, and they offer a wide range of bikes for rent, including road bikes, mountain bikes, and e-bikes. They are quite expensive, but you can be sure that you’ll get great service from them as they have excellent reviews.
Their prices start at $15 per hour, or $39 per day for a basic bike. You can check out the types of bikes and their prices here.
Miami Beach Bicycle Center
Finally, Miami Beach Bicycle Center is another rental option located in the heart of Miami Beach. While they primarily sell bikes, they also offer rentals for all ages and types of bikes. They’re situated on 5th Street and their daily rentals average around $30, but they also often have special discounts which you can grab.

TIPS FOR RENTING A BIKE IN MIAMI
Firstly, make sure to check the condition of the bike before renting. If you return your bike damaged it will be entirely your fault, even if you know you didn’t do anything to damage it. To save yourself from any fines, make sure you check out the bikes, and even take photos for good measure.
Secondly, ensure the rental includes a lock, helmet, and map if you need one. It’s necessary to have a helmet, unless you’re cycling only on Miami Beach. If you’re entering heavy traffic, make sure you’re protected. Moreover, you need to have a lock so you can leave your bike locked and not worry about it being gone once you’re back. The fines for lost bikes are enormous so it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Finally, make sure you return your bike on time, because if you’re late they could charge you a fee for being late, or you’ll have to pay for another whole day.
MIAMI BIKE TRAILS AND ROUTES
There are various bike routes and trails in Miami you can take, so here are a few of the most popular ones!

Miami Beach Boardwalk
Biking along the Miami Beach Boardwalk is a popular activity for both locals and tourists, and it was our favorite biking trail. The boardwalk runs approximately 4 miles from 5th Street in South Beach to 46th Street in Mid-Beach, and it’s the perfect way to enjoy the coastline and the stunning scenic views of the beach.

Rickenbacker Causeway
Biking on the Rickenbacker Causeway is very popular because it’s a scenic and relatively safe route which connects Miami to Key Biscayne. The Causeway stretches approximately 6 miles, starting from the mainland in Miami and extending over Biscayne Bay to Key Biscayne.
This trail has dedicated bike lanes on both sides of the road, so it’s perfectly safe, although it is a bit of a challenge, so make sure you’re prepared for a daring bike ride. The stunning views of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline will surely help you!

Virginia Key Mountain Bike Trails
Virginia Key Mountain Bike Trails are perfect for mountain biking enthusiasts. Located on Virginia Key, this trail system provides a variety of routes suitable for different skill levels of mountain biking. You can reach this trail via the Rickenbacker Causeway, it’s just minutes from downtown Miami, and it offers over 10 miles of trails designed for mountain biking. For this trail you need a mountain bike and some serious stamina!
Old Cutler Trail
The Old Cutler Trail is a scenic and historic biking route in Miami, offering a beautiful journey through lush landscapes, residential areas, and several parks. It’s not near Miami Beach, so if that’s where you’re staying you might need transport to the location. The trail extends approximately 13.5 miles, starting from Old Cutler Road and running south to Palmetto Bay.
It’s mostly paved and well-maintained, making it suitable for road bikes, hybrids, and mountain bikes. It’s not easy and it’s quite long, but if you like a challenge, this one is the one for you!

LINCOLN ROAD
Make your way to the Lincoln Road. This road is famous for both affordable and high-end stores and plenty of restaurants. While this road might be a bit crowded, therefore you’ll need to be careful while biking, it’s worth passing by. You can even park your bikes and roam around the shops and then continue your biking journey!
VENETIAN CAUSEWAY – VENETIAN ISLANDS
After reaching the end of Lincoln Road, find your way to the Venetian Causeway. The Venetian Causeway links Miami Beach with the city of Miami, and it also connects all the Venetian islands. These islands are famous for luxurious homes and stunning waterfront views, so you will love this part of the ride. There’s a bike lane on both sides of the road and it’s completely safe and enjoyable.

KASEYA CENTER
Once you’re finished with the Venetian Causeway, you’ll officially be on the mainland, in the city of Miami. The first attraction you’ll see while biking is the famous Kaseya Center, home to the famous Miami Heat basketball team. You can even stop and do a tour of the Center if you’re a sports fan!
