If you only have one day in Miami, here’s the best Miami itinerary to make the most out of your time!

Miami is a huge city with lots of things to see and do, so making a 1-day itinerary is truly a challenge. I’ve spent a week in Miami and seen everything there is, so this is my perfect one day in Miami!

IS ONE DAY IN MIAMI ENOUGH?

One day in Miami is not enough to explore the whole city, but you can get a taste of what the city has to offer. That doesn’t mean that one day in Miami can’t still be a memorable and enjoyable experience if planned well.

If you’re only coming for a day, I would highly recommend returning to Miami for a longer period later, but this 1-day itinerary will be the perfect solution for you – you’ll see the most important attractions, and you’ll be itching to return!

DO YOU NEED A CAR IN MIAMI?

If you’re only spending one day in Miami, you do not need to rent a car. You can’t see the whole city anyway, so limiting yourself to a few locations in the city is the key. For the locations which are further away, you can always use an Uber or a taxi. It’s definitely going to be cheaper than renting a car.

On the other hand, when you’re staying in Miami for a longer period of time, you should rent a car because there are excellent destinations and attractions around Miami which are only accessible by car.

HOW TO REACH MIAMI BEACH

Miami Beach is the location you definitely won’t want to miss in your one day in Miami, and if you want a really chill day in Miami, you can spend the whole day at South Beach. Here’s how you can reach it from the airport or the cruise port if you’re in Miami for a layover or a cruise stop.

MIAMI AIRPORT TO MIAMI BEACH

Getting from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Miami Beach is straightforward, and you have several options to choose from based on your budget, time, and convenience preferences.

You can get a taxi or an Uber, which will take 20 to 30 minutes and it will cost you $35 to $45. If you’re in a hurry, it’s quicker to just grab a taxi already waiting than wait for an Uber to come pick you up.

You can also get an airport shuttle which is a bit cheaper ($20-$25 per person) but it takes longer. It’s around 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of stops and traffic.

Finally, the last and the cheapest option is the public transportation – Miami Beach Airport Express (Bus Route 150), to be exact. It only costs $2.25 per person and it will take you around 30-40 minutes to reach Miami Beach. Keep in mind that the bus runs every 20 minutes from 6 a.m. to 11:40 p.m. daily, so you need to stick to the schedule.

MIAMI CRUISE PORT TO MIAMI BEACH

Traveling from the Port of Miami to Miami Beach is quicker and cheaper than from the airport, and here are a few options:

If you get a Taxi or an Uber, you’ll be at the Miami Beach in 15-20 minutes for around $25-$35. The Taxis are readily available at the cruise terminals so it’s quick and easy.

Secondly, you can grab a cruise shuttle which will take you to the Miami beach in 20-30 minutes for around $20-$30. Make sure to book these online in advance or at the port.

Finally, you can take the Metrobus as the cheapest option for just $2.25 per person. It will take you 30 to 45 minutes, depending on traffic and wait times but it’s really affordable and easy. Just walk to the nearby bus stop and take the Metrobus Route 119 (S Bus) or Route 120 (Beach MAX). Both routes go to Miami Beach.

BAYSIDE MARKETPLACE

Bayside Marketplace is a popular shopping, dining, and entertainment destination located in the heart of Downtown Miami along Biscayne Bay. It’s a great spot for both locals and tourists as it offers a vibrant atmosphere with a mix of shops, restaurants, and live entertainment.

I would definitely recommend shopping at Bayside Marketplace since it features a variety of shops from well-known retail brands to unique boutiques. You can find clothing, accessories, souvenirs, and more. You’ll find some of the most unique souvenirs right at Bayside Marketplace. You can also browse through stalls selling handmade crafts, jewelry, and local art.

I would recommend stopping for lunch here because there are numerous restaurant options here. There are well-known chains like Hard Rock Cafe and local favorites like The Knife and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. There’s also a food court for quick and affordable food options if you don’t have time to sit down.

If you’re up for some entertainment, Bayside has plenty of live music and performances on its main stage. Moreover, if you want to explore outside the Bayside, you can take a sightseeing boat tour from the docks. Some of the most popular options include the Millionaire’s Row Cruise and the Thriller Miami Speedboat Adventures.

ART DECO DISTRICT

The Art Deco Historic District in Miami Beach is one of the most iconic parts of Miami, and it’s a must visit. This area is famous for its distinctive and vibrant architectural style, dating from the 1920s to the 1940s. The buildings here are known for their pastel colors, geometric shapes, nautical elements, and decorative details.

Some of the most popular buildings you must see are the Colony Hotel, The Carlyle, and The Tides.

The most iconic street in the neighborhood is Ocean Drive. It’s a lively street lined with Art Deco hotels, restaurants, and bars. On Ocean Drive you can sit down for a drink, have a meal, or later enjoy the nightlife.

If you’re up for it, one of the most fun activities on Miami Beach is cycling. You can rent a Citi Bike for 1-2 hours and drive along the Miami Beach Boardwalk. This way, you’ll get to explore more of the Miami Beach and get some stunning views of the beach and the waterfront hotels. If you’re unsure doing it by yourself, you can also book a bike tour. THE BEACH

4 p.m. –

Finally, after various activities, go enjoy yourself at the beach. The lovely sand and clear turquoise waters make Miami Beach make it ideal for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports. We spent most of our time at the Lummus Park Beach. This beach is located along Ocean Drive and it offers beach volleyball courts, outdoor gym equipment, and scenic pathways.

After completing this itinerary, you can safely say you have seen the most important parts of Miami, but I would highly recommend returning, because Miami has a lot more to offer than what you can see in one day!
