Where is Lopud?
Lopud is one of the three bigger islands in an archipelago called the Elaphites near Dubrovnik in Croatia. It’s the most developed and the most visited island out of the three and it’s definitely the most worth it.
What’s special about this island is that cars are not allowed on the island, which immediately makes it more relaxed and calm. The island is quite small and it only has 269 inhabitants, but touristically it has a lot to offer so it’s definitely worth checking out.

Where to stay on Lopud?
In case you’re interested in staying on Lopud for more than a day, the island has various accommodation options.
The only hotel on the island is the RMH Lopud Lafodia hotel – a luxurious hotel that will have anything you could dream of.
The hotel offers everything from hotel rooms (various levels of luxury) to suites and apartments, all the way to their own villa which you can rent. The hotel also provides you with a spa, a private pool and a private beach, sports fields, bikes, and even private boat shuttle transfers.

The most interesting experience in this hotel would definitely be staying in Lazure Apartments. Right next to the RMH Lopud Lafodia hotel there’s a yacht-like residence built to make you feel as if you’re sailing on a yacht instead of being stationed on an island.
The incredible views from your terrace resembling a yacht deck combined with the luxury amenities of the apartment will make you not want to leave!
We stayed at RMH Lopud Lafodia and really enjoyed it, you can check out my review of this hotel right here!

If you don’t want to stay at a hotel, there are many apartments you can find on Booking.com which will be equally amazing.
Where to eat on Lopud?
For such a small island, Lopud has many restaurants to offer. Whether you want something quick and cheap or a proper dinner with quality Croatian seafood, you’ll find it.
The places you really shouldn’t miss are restaurant Dubrovnik and restaurant Obala. Both have incredible local food which will blow your mind. I do slightly recommend Obala a bit more, they’re more affordable than Dubrovnik (both are expensive either way), and the food might just be a bit tastier in my opinion.

Things to do on Lopud:
Lopud is honestly an oasis of peace, but if you’re into active vacations you can still have fun. While Lopud is really small, the island is still very interesting and offers many different activities. Check out some of the best things you should do right here on this list!
1. Arrive early by ferry
If you’re coming to Lopud, the easiest and cheapest way is by the local ferry. Jadrolinija has a few ferries a day coming and going from Dubrovnik to Lopud. The ferry ticket is only 10 euros round trip.
This ferry takes about an hour to arrive at Lopud but it’s a wonderful experience itself. Sit inside the belly of the ferry and drink some coffee or sit out on the deck and enjoy the lovely breeze in your hair.
My advice is to take the earliest boat possible to maximize your time on Lopud. The ferry that’s currently connecting Lopud and Dubrovnik is called Dora (or Postira off-season) and the first departure every day is at 10 a.m. The last ferry from the island back to Dubrovnik is around 7 p.m.

2. Climb up to the Sutvrač Fortress
If you’re up for some active vacationing and interested in a challenging hike, climb up to Sutvrac Fortress. This fortress was built in 1563 and today there are only the ruins left behind.
Although there isn’t much left of the fortress to see, the view of the island is absolutely incredible from up there. Be very well prepared if you’re thinking of hiking up. Great walking shoes, a bottle of water, and sunscreen are a must-have!

3. Dip in the Šunj beach
The most popular attraction on Lopud is definitely the Šunj beach. The gorgeous, sandy beach is a favorite spot for everyone on the island. Situated around 2 kilometers from the main Lopud promenade, you can access it by foot, golf cart, or even by boat.
It is quite a walk if you choose to go on foot, but if you’re not into walking, the golf cart ride is only a few minutes long and it’s around 3 euros per person.
The Šunj beach is perfect for children as it’s shallow for many meters into the sea. There’s food, drinks, and anything you could think of and want at the beach. Keep in mind that the food on the beach is not cheap so if you’re on a budget, bring your own.

4. Take a walk to the edge of the island
Lopud has a lovely promenade along the sea. It will give you an amazing overview of the whole island. You can start your hike from the place where you leave the ferry and finish all the way at the edge of the island.
This walk is not challenging at all, it lasts around 45 minutes. You will go from walking through the houses and restaurants to seeing the cliffs of the island and a magnificent view of the sea.

5. Marvel at the Lopud monastery
The Lopud Franciscan Monastery is the first thing you’ll see while coming to Lopud. It’s an incredible landmark you can see from the ferry before you’ve even stepped foot on the island.
It was founded in 1483 and it’s the oldest part of the island. It has been renovated in the past two decades and today it’s an exclusive accommodation for high-end guests who like to be hidden from the view of the people.
While you cannot enter the monastery, you can some closer and enter a little church in the yard. It’s not going to take long and it’s worth checking out.

I hope these will help you plan out your perfect day on Lopud, whenever that may be!
This truly looks like the perfect day! One of the biggest highlights of this for me would be to see the Sutvrač Fortress. I just love historic places, and a good strenuous hike sounds so nice. Thanks for getting it on my radar.

Croatia is such a beautiful place, and I am enjoying learning about it from your posts. I didn’t know anything about it until recently, so it’s fun to be able to read about Lopud and the monastery and see the gorgeous photos!
