If you’re staying in Split and wondering where to go to enjoy the sea, these are some great Split beaches you can visit!
Split is Croatia’s biggest coastal city, and one of, if not THE most popular summer destination in the country. There are quite a few fun things to do in Split, and swimming in the gorgeous Adriatic is definitely one of them. While Split’s beaches aren’t quite as stunning as those along the Makarska Riviera, there are still a few that are absolutely worth visiting if you’re in the mood for a beach day in the city.
Keep reading to find out what are some of the popular Split beaches where you can enjoy a nice day by the sea!
5 SPLIT BEACHES YOU NEED TO VISIT
These are the most popular beaches in and around Split. However, don’t expect the most incredible beaches here. Split is a big city with a lot to offer, but world-class beaches aren’t really one of its strong suits. If you’re looking for truly stunning beaches in Croatia, I’d highly recommend renting a car and heading down to the Makarska Riviera to explore its coastline.

BACVICE BEACH
Bacvice Beach is the most popular beach in Split, but honestly, it’s the one I like the least. The biggest advantage is its location. It’s just a short walk from the city center, so you can easily get there from the Old Town. It’s also a sandy beach with shallow, calm water, which makes it great for kids and non-swimmers. The water is clean, and there are plenty of amenities like showers, sunbed rentals, and nearby restaurants. At night, the beach turns into a nightlife hotspot so you can enjoy a great night out.
That said, it’s always crowded and, in my opinion, not very beautiful. If you have the time to explore other beaches, I’d skip Bacvice and head somewhere that better shows you the beauty of the Adriatic.
Bacvice Beach is famous as the birthplace of picigin, a traditional Croatian ball game played in the shallow waters.

KASJUNI BEACH
Kasjuni Beach is a pebbly beach located about 3 kilometers west of Split’s city center, at the base of Marjan Hill and surrounded by beautiful pine forests. It’s around an 8-minute drive from the Old Town, so it’s not really walkable unless you’re up for an hour-long stroll. If you’re on a budget, you can take public bus number 12 to get there.
The beach has crystal-clear, shallow waters, so it’s perfect for swimming and snorkeling. It’s a popular spot for families and anyone looking to relax. There are a few amenities there. You can rent sunbeds and parasols, and there’s a beach bar and a café for drinks, but nothing too over-the-top. I’d suggest bringing everything you need with you. There’s a good amount of parking space, so finding parking shouldn’t be much of a problem.

ZNJAN BEACH
Znjan Beach is Split’s most popular beach destination. You’ll find it in the eastern part of the city consisting of several beaches, with a mix of pebbles, gravel, and rocky sections. These beaches are great for everyone, from families and casual swimmers to water sports lovers. Znjan has great amenities like sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets, restaurants, and even lifeguards, so you’ll definitely have a comfortable experience. It’s also wheelchair-accessible!
At the moment, Znjan Beach is undergoing a major redevelopment project, so it’s temporarily inaccessible. However, the construction is expected to be completed in June. If you’re visiting after that, you’ll get to enjoy the fully renovated beach. If you’re visiting before June, you can still enjoy the nearby Trstenik Beach.
KASTELET BEACH
Kastelet Beach is located at the base of Marjan Hill, about 2 kilometers west of Split’s city center. It’s quite a bit closer than Kasjuni Beach and takes around 30 minutes to reach on foot from the Old Town, which makes it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. This pebble beach is famous for crystal-clear, blue waters and a relaxing atmosphere. There are outdoor showers, changing rooms, and beach chairs and umbrellas available for rent. While there isn’t much natural shade, you can still find a spot if you arrive early enough. The beach is easily accessible by car or public bus if you don’t feel like walking.

JEZINAC BEACH
Jezinac Beach is also located at the base of Marjan Hill, right next to Kastelet Beach. It’s a peaceful, pebbly beach that’s very popular with locals. You can reach it by taking a scenic coastal walk, public bus, or car. There’s a parking lot nearby, so parking isn’t an issue.
The beach has great amenities, including outdoor showers, restrooms, and a beach bar. The calm, shallow waters make it ideal if you’re coming with a family, while the nearby rocky outcrops are great if you’re an adventurous swimmer who loves to dive or explore. To make the most of your visit, arrive early during the peak season to grab a good spot, and bring water shoes for extra comfort on the pebbly shore.
